going natural??? i never heard of that!!!
when u tell some ppl ur going natural...some ppl act like ooo yea i know what ur talking about and other ppl they say what's that?? alot of ppl don't understand why some ppl want their hair to be in its natural state and alot of ppl that go natural have different reasons for why they chose to go that route...maybe they just got tired of relaxers, the damage being done to their hair, allergic to certain chemicals, whatever the case was, they went natural. me, myself, i went natural b/c of damage being done to my hair and my hair and skin not getting along w/ the harsh chemicals in alot of relaxers and products today....what has caused alot of u to go natural and how long hair u been natural???

I went natural because i was just bored of my hair relaxed...I wanted something new..something i never had before..I had everything done to my relaxed hair bangs, color, highlights, side bangs, a bob, and final my short cut I just wanted something new..my relaxed hair had no damage so that wasn't the case..I was just simply bored and wanted to see my REAL hair texture for a change..I've been natural now for 4 months (well dec. 3rd makes my 4 month) and I love everything about it..I know ill never be bored of my natural hair...i love watching it grow and with all the styles natural hair can do I seriously doubt boredom will ever be a problem again

I was always seeing people who had "curly" hair and was wanting my hair to look the same. For example, Kelis. I loved loved loved her hair and I tried my best to get my hair like that. The closes I got was crunchy, dry, waves. I didn't go natural for some deep reason, I just went because I wanted the hair I'd always envied

Re: going natural??? i never heard of that!!!
My story is a lot different from most naturals. I didn't chose to go natural - in fact, in my naive, young mind, I don't think I knew what "going natural" meant. Instead, my stylist didn't want to give me one. (I think at this time she was transitioning, and because she is very much into hair care and maintainance, she didn't want to give me one). Not just that, but to achieve my staple hair style, I didn't need the chemicals. So I stopped getting the perms.
I didn't go natural with the intent to wear my hair in its natural state. And for a long time I didn't consider myself natural because I didn't. However, I'm now starting to appreciate my kinks and curls.

I went natural because I wanted to see what my natural texture looked like. My mother had been relaxing my hair since I was 3 or 4 years old. So I don't remember at all what it looks like at all. I don't even have a picture. Relaxed hair was all I knew. I thought why not where my hair the way it naturally grows out of my head and love it!!! I have been natural for 11 months and I will never relax my hair again. If I want it straight I will just flat iron it. I am loving every minute of my natural journey!!!!

Re: going natural??? i never heard of that!!!
I have been wearing my hair natural for 11 years and I did it because I realized that growing up I had a lot of self hatred issues. I wanted hair like my mom which was a fine loose curl pattern. I couldn't understand why I had to have "hair like my daddy!" LOL. So as I got older I decided to address my issues with my hair and decided to wear my hair natural to see if I can appreciate it in it's natural state. I realized that my natural hair was so versatile and I was able to experiment with more styles than I could when I chemically altered it. I also learned that my natural hair is beautiful and so now I wear my natural hair with pride!

I went natural because I couldn't remember what my natural texture looked like and also I was tired of being dependent on unreliable hair stylist.
I stayed natural because I love my natural texture. I can't believe I have been altering it all this time.
2 years 4 months natural

I was going bald from all the breakage. I got scared and decided it was time to do something different. I think the transition was kind of easy for me because I didn't wear my hair out anyway. I hated my relaxed hair. I always wore braids, but relaxed my hair underneath so my edges looked good. Yeah, I'm so serious.
I'll admit I didn't know what "going natural" was. When my bestie suggested it I was like "what's that" and she said "Your hair without a relaxer". Then I looked around the room (I was visiting at her mom's house) and realized that none of the four other women in the room had a perm. A lightbulb went off, oh, you mean, no relaxer???
Lord help a sistah.

AAHhahahahaha @ Renny and your lightbulb!!!
When I went natural there was no specific reason. (I stated this in another thread somewhere). But I got a relaxer I think in the 4th grade or so. My mom and I both were tired of the yanking and crying!!! My dad of course was like I was tryna be white!!! That was not at all the case. So anyway, my mom and I did the touch ups every few weeks for a while but we didn't keep it up. Honestly I never needed a relaxer in the first dang place (I know that now) (Oh and I also once had a curl--why??--my hair was already naturally curly---what the hell were we thinkin???? LOL)
So anyway, In middle school and high school, i wasn't all about my hair. I probably had relaxed ends and new growth for the longest. I don't remember getting another relaxer until my senior year and that was only cuz I had to be fly for prom!!!!!
then in college, same thing I still had that old relaxer from senior yr and I think I got one last one like fresman year. And STILL didn't keep it up, no touch ups or anything. So sophomore year or the summer right before, I BC. (I didn't know that's what it was called then, people were just calling it a short natural or a caesar!!) I only did it cuz I loved the way it looked. It was never really about me 'being natural.' I just liked the idea of having no work to do on my hair.
Now, I stayed natural (14,15 yrs later) because I never really thought about going back to the relaxer. I don't need one. I mean, who really NEEDS a relaxer??? I love my hair. I love my curls, the fullness of it when it's curly, I love that I can do twist outs, flat twists, WnGs, I can wear it straight if I want to......who can do all that with a relaxer??? LOL I love the versatility of my natural hair. I always said that if I had know then what I know now I never would put that trash in my hair!! But you live and you learn!!

Re: going natural??? i never heard of that!!!
I decided to go natural because I haven't seen my natural hair since before kindergarten. I think my hair needed a fresh start. Relaxers and flat irons have gradually taken their toll on my hair. I'm only 4 months into my transition, but I can already tell how thick my hair is without the relaxer.
