How long can you freeze Henna
I have the leftover Henna in my freezer but I'm wondering how long will it be good for. It's been in the freezer since last month, does anyone know???

I have never seen anything saying exactly how many months it keeps. If you're talking about henna that's already mixed, I would check for freezer burn - just like with food. If it's only been a month or so, it should be totally fine. HTH

Basically, indefinitely. As long as it is true henna and has no contaminates or mixed with indigo or cassia or anything else upwards to about 15 years. I will try to find this in my word documents so you will have the reference. I remember it from one of the henna sites or an ayurvedic site.

Re: How long can you freeze Henna
Hola Curlies,
I tried Cassia yesterday and I had leftover which I left outside overnight so I am going to toss...but for future reference, can any of you tell me how I could store it? Can I freeze also? If so, can I still freeze if it's mixed with something else, e.g. amla?
Thanks!

Hi Belleaenca,
Cassia can be frozen to keep it fresh. I have found the best way to store it (cassia or henna) is in a plastic ziploc-type bag. You just want it to be as airtight as possible.
You can freeze mixtures as long as they don't contain indigo. Indigo can't be saved.
Also, last week, I used some henna powder that had been frozen for 7 months. It didn't stain nearly as well as before. I've decided to use my powder within 4 months to make sure I still get the full effect. HTH

Re: How long can you freeze Henna
Thank you, LittleOne!
That sounds perfect for me. I don't like color in my hair, I'm stricktly using these treatments for the health benefits they impart the hair.
How do you defrost it after being in the freezer for a while? Do you leave it to defrost in the fridge or do you take it out and leave at room temp until ready?
Btw, you have beautiful hair!

Thanks girl!
If I'm not in a hurry, I defrost it in the fridge...which takes 4 hrs+. If I need to get right to it, I put the ziploc bag in a bowl of cold water on the counter. That defrosts in about an hr.

Last question (I think ), do you mix it and let it sit overnight and then freeze or do you immediately freeze after mixing it?

I have done it both ways and the dye release is the same. Freezing the henna helps to release the dye and when you thaw it, it is ready to use.

I mix the henna and leave it to sit overnight (for 8-10 hrs) and then I apply it. I freeze the leftovers until I'm ready for my next treatment.

So what happens if you freeze the mixed henna and indigo, does it go bad?

Here is a response from Khadija, the owner of Henna Sooq. regarding freezing henna:
Frozen henna paste can be kept frozen for up to six months.
Frozen or refrigerated henna powder, unmixed is good for up to 2 years.
It won't stain well if you've left mixed henna paste out at room temperature after 24-48 hours depending on which henna powder you used.
