TerraD~ The Dead has risen!

OMG! I just realized that I have not been on since May! I mean, I've checked out a few Curl Street's, but my previous thread was locked. So, I was...........eviicted from Curl Street

I just realized last night how much I miss you guys! It's safe to say that I have a lot of catching up to do!

I'm about to go to a doctor's appt, but here's a quick recap of what MM (my hair name, for those who do not know me) and I have been up to:

-I have had 2 pretty crummy bouts of illness. My doctor says that my immune system is trying to get used to working with so many sick children.
-MM has been mostly in protective styles, DC every week to gear up for my straightening, length check and serious trim/layer cut.
-MM has been growing like a weed, but she has experienced a bit of breakage at the crown. More on that later.
-I've been working like crazy at the hospital, currently gearing to apply to UCLA for my PNP.
-I have a new guy in my life, don't want to say too much. We're still really new!
-I've been traveling like you would not believe.
-I'm going to be an Auntie again, this time to a niece!!!!!
-I'm going to be a godmama again, still to soon to know if it's a lil mama or a lil man!
-I've been involved in two churches, faithfully.

Basically this is it, LOL. I will be back after my appt with more info on MM with pics and all.

Love you guys and miss you all! Can't wait to meet all of the new faces from my absence!

Here are two pics where you can kind of see MM. The first is a flat twist and curl. The second is hair that was put in six huge flat twists, and taken out when still damp. This shows some of my natural texture (that still doesn't really exist!). Sorry they're blurry.





I will work on getting more pics of MM this week and next week before I head to Michigan for the straightening and cut

Hey guys, so here are a few things I'm going to attempt this winter (Though it's going to be 97 degrees today!):

-More braid/twist combo updos (my scalp gets really sore depending on how I braid it, so I have to try different styles)
-Mini twists (medium twists look the fullest on my hair, but unravel faster. I'm hoping that mini twists will stay longer, even if they look thinner)
-Rollerset (this will help decrease tangling, for buns, etc)
-Other protective styles (two large french braids, buns, updos, etc)

On November 19th, I will be getting my hair straightened, getting a trim and getting layers cut in. This may or may not cause a loss of a lot of length. I'm near BSL, when I stretch it (about an inch above). I don't mind the length loss, if it means that my ends will look better.

I've been doing weekly DT's to prepare my hair for straightening. My last straightening was March of this year, so MM may or may not freak out!

Right now I have about 15 large twists in my hair, that are rolled on rollers (my current stretching method). They will then get unraveled and placed in a loose messy bun. I'll post a pic later!

Over the past few months I've been learning how to work with my texture. When wet my hair is wavy/straight on the left and top sides. Loose curly on the right. Really curly at the crown and tight/curly/coarse at the back. When dry my hair is straight on the left, poofy/straight on the right and crown and a shrunken fro in the back!
I may never be able to do a WNG, which is fine. I've learned to live with it. Which took a lot! Some may say I'm not "natural" since I technically alter my texture by braiding/twisting, but Who Cares! This works for me and I like it.

I pray that we all become comfortable with ourselves and our hair

I did mine when I hit the year mark..and after a few days I was eager to get my curls back. When I first wet it, it didn't curl right away and I almost cried. I had to saturate it before I saw my curls again. I plan to do it once a year for some variety. Heck when I do a roller set..it gets straight too! You should be fine..but I am sure you will enjoy the variety!

Welcome back! Nice to "meet" you. Your flat twists came out great! They look like big waves compared to what you get with the twist outs? Can't tell completely, but it's still cute.

Hey ladies!!! I had a busy week, but am here with an update! Hope everyone is well!

So I have good news and bad news. Good news first: MM had reached BSL!!!! Bad news: My ends were terrible! They weren't split as bad as I expected, but they were just terribly dry. I sat there for the longest trying to figure out what it is, when I realized that my busy work schedule and love of easy updos, is jacking MM up! When I wear updos, no matter how much I moisturize, my ends feel dry when I take it down. So, I'm taking a break on the updos, until I can nurse MM back to health.

I ended up getting 3+ inches cut off in some areas. I'm back to APL, but MM is feeling better, so I'm happy! Here is me doing a post cut length check (a few days later, because I was so distraught about my ends I almost forgot )




I decided to keep my hair straight or semi straight for the rest of the winter. I've found that it's much easier to see my ends and how they're doing when they're not curled up. I'm still rocking the press. This weekend I will be washing, DC, henna-ing and stretching. I will then attempt a rollerset on damp hair (not enough patience to do it on wet hair!). This will only be for buns! I will be bunning nearly the entire winter! It's the easiest way to know my ends are soaked with moisture and safe!


Among other news, I'm going to be in the DMV area for my bday weekend! Woot! That means I need to see some of my DMV curlies (Chrs, lol)! I will only be there for a few days Dec 9-14! Let me know if you're down!

LOL! It's not really straight, anymore! I do bantu knots every night, so it stays wavy! If I go out today I will take pics!
