White Residue Please Help!!!
I just big chopped in September haven't posted pictures anywhere yet cause I'm trying to get used to how big my head looks with shorter hair! Anyway...I have type 4a, in the middle 3c in front, back, and sides. My problem is every time I wash my hair and add a moisturizer I always get white residue. I am using either Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk, or plain coconut oil and I have tried a few other products with the same results. I usually apply when my hair is dripping wet, but I sometimes apply after blotting with a tee-shirt with the same results. I'm sure if I keep rubbing the product in the residue might go away but then my curls get all frizzy. Is there any product homemade or store bought that I could use to provide all day moisture without leaving residue, and doesn’t have to be rubbed in to the point of messing up my curls? Or is there some step or technique I'm overlooking? Or am I asking for too much...?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: White Residue Please Help!!!
I would suggest waiting until your hair has dried some, a little bit.. For instance when you finish washing your hair, wait a little bit before applying the products so that your hair has had some time to dry. Some products are meant for damp hair, not soaking wet. Also maybe you are using too much product which could result in the white residue. I learned this early on in my process. I always thought using more product would be more beneficial, but I have learned that less is more... Since its happening with multiple products not just a specific one, I would try the things I recommended, maybe they will help..

You should try scrunching the product into your hair.

Also look at the combination of products in addition to the amount of product used.
One day I had Mixed Chicks Leave-In, topped with Darcy's Botanicals Leave-In, then Darcy's Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Styling Creme, then added eco styler and wound up with a nasty white residue. Same thing happened trying to add MJ Curly Pudding on top of that. I found that reducing a leave-in and using an oil instead of the styling creme gave me good results. In short, too many creamy products on top of each other gave me the residue.
Good luck to you.

I've tried using Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk and coconut oil on my hair for wng's and had white residue. The use Giovanni Direct Leave-In....I distribute through my wet hair, then apply olive oil ecostyler. Initially there is residue but it disappears in no time.
Free2Be: I agree with you regarding too many creamy products..all you get is buildup and residue.

Thank you all so much, I think my two main things were putting product in when my hair was wet, and using way too much. I was putting in the same amount of product as when I had shoulder length hair, and my hair is only about 5 inches now! Oh well you live and you learn.... thank you for the suggestions

Good info ladies.. I've been thru the same thing. I usually cowash and add the oil to my hair while cowashing, then just apply a leave-in then maybe some gel.. yes it turns into a hot mess.. white spots all over the place.. tee hee. Thanks

idk what to really tell u about that white residue, but i do know when i mix certain products together, it creates that same white residue ur talking about and this is normal....however, it depends on ur method of applying ur hair products to ur hair. hope that helped
