Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale Empty Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale

Post by cha_phylicia 29th September 2010, 9:33 pm

So I'd like to share my journey with you guys. I am not the most creative person nor the most daring so I'm putting myself out there to challenge myself. Since starting my natural hair journey and my own blog, I find myself spending more time on my hair and my outward appearance. I know I'm already beautiful on the inside Razz

I'm shy and a bit of a wallflower, so I'm working on changing that! So my last relaxer was in March 2010 but I only decided three weeks ago that I was going to embrace my naturally curls, prior to that that I was straightening it every day. Here are some pics!

My relaxed hair 4 years ago at its longest

Freshly co-washed with a leave-in. Look at my curls! I'm thinking I will be a 3c, but who knows

And this is how I've worn my hair so far this week. Twists pinned towards the back. I'm taking the twists out tomorrow.

I'm loving this forum, I am getting so many ideas and tips!

Thank you all Wink

Thanks ladies! I wanted to take them out today, but I woke up and checked the weather... 100% chance of rain! So needless to say, my hair is still up in twists, hopefully I can take them out tomorrow!

I'm hoping to transition for 2 years. I'm used to having long hair and I have a big head so I don't think short hair would be very becoming on me LOL

And thank you for the warm welcomes guys Smile

Post by cha_phylicia 1st October 2010, 12:28 am

So I've been trying to find a picture of my hair so you all can see my starting length. This was in May 2010, about 3 months post-relaxer so my hair is a tad bit longer now. I've had one trim since then. My next trim will be in mid-October - I hate dead ends! Luckily my hair has been really good and my stylist hasn't had to trim too much. Although I'm thinking I will let her cut an inch off next time........... we'll see Razz

Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale Empty Re: Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale

Post by cha_phylicia 2nd October 2010, 11:56 am

It's the weekend!!! Thank God, I was finally able to SLEEP IN. It felt lovely.

This morning I've been doing 'research' ... as usual. I came across this comment on KISS stating that this lady uses honey and lemon juice to lighten her hair... intriguing right? So I googled it and learned that honey has natural traces of hydrogen peroxide. This is a snippet from http://www.buzzle.com/articles/lighten-hair-with-honey.html

"Honey is one of the best natural substitutes for hydrogen peroxide. A combination of honey and cinnamon is considered ideal for hair lightening since both are natural peroxides. Let's have a look at the procedure for making honey mixture at home. Take 1 cup raw honey and add 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon to it. Mix well. Now take 2 cups of water and add it to the above mixture. Lastly, add 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in it. Let the mixture settle for around 30 minutes, so that the hydrogen peroxide is activated. Stir it properly and carefully coat it on soaked hair. Leave the mixture on your hair overnight and wash it off the next morning."

What do you guys think??? I'm actually kind of curious....

Yeah, I read about this a while back and some ladies had results after several applications! Chamomile tea is also a natural hair lightener!!

Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale Empty Phylicia - Scalp Detox!

Post by cha_phylicia 4th October 2010, 9:16 pm

So I have joined a twist / pin up challenge! Which works perfectly for me because it's what I planned on doing with my hair as a protective style. So between October 3 and November 6.. I believe... I have to wear my hair in an updo for 6 days out of a week. Here are some pics of the process Smile

My scalp had a bit of buildup on it so I used this stuff, I.C.O.N. Detoxifying Treatment... It is the greatest scalp cleanser / detox I have ever found!!! I told my stylist about my persistent dry scalp. I don't just have dandruff, it was kind of gross because I had gigantic thick flakes/ Anyways, she told me to get this stuff. It was kind of pricey $26. Basically you apply it straight onto your scalp, leave it on for 10 minutes, then continue with your normal washing routine. My scalp has never been better. I have always hated 'scratching' my scalp so this does all the work for me and it doesn't traumatize your scalp or roots! I bought it from my hairdresser (Amalfi Spa) I have never seen it in stores. But if you find it, it's a necessity! http://www.iconproducts.com/v2/products/detail/shift/

These are the ingredients:

Water, Propylene Glycol, Glcycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxythylcellulose Menthol, Peppermint Oil, Salicylic Acid, Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) Oil, Sodium Polystrene Sulfonate, Hydrolized Silk Protein.

How weird is this? It looks like a portion of my hair didn't take to the relaxer back in the day
Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale Hair_011

And my twists!

Lastly, my updo: Please excuse the tired look lol

Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale Empty TGIF! & Happy Thanksgiving Wknd to the Canadians!

Post by cha_phylicia 8th October 2010, 8:37 pm

I haven't come across any other Canadian's on here... but if you're out there... Happy Turkey Weekend!!!

I'm looking forward to food and sleeping. yes. pure satisfaction.

My weekend hair plans! I'm still part of the twist challenge! On Sunday I am going to attempt a black tea rinse. I do want to lessen shedding, strengthen and darken my hair colour, so we'll see how that goes.

Has anyone noticed how relaxer changed their hair colour. I took this pic this morning:

Phylicia's Journey to au Naturale 00910

And was surprised with how much darker my new growth is. I always knew that my hair got way lighter in the summer because of the relaxer, but wow, that is quite the diff.

Check out my blog (addy's in my signature) I have a few more updates there!
