Jamila henna vs Dulhan
When I first tried henna over the summer, I used Jamila and noticed that there was some temporary curl loosening and left my hair very dry. I started using Dulhan henna (purchased from an Indian grocery store) and experienced no curl loosening and it wasn't as drying but it was harder to rinse out. I mixed them both the same (with green tea) and they just left me with different results. Has anyone tried them or experienced a difference?
Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
I'm getting ready to apply Dulham and steam. I'll report back my results.

Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
I just applied the Dulham henna mix on my Mother's hair and it covered all her gray hairs orange. Which is great. Last time I put henna on her it did nothing. I have some indigo steaming on her now to hopefully tone down some of the orange.

Thanks for sharing. Any curl loosening? and have you tried jamila?
Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
Update: After steaming in the Indigo on Mom it got most of her gray hair down to an Auburn color. She really liked the results this time. As for loosening her curl pattern I couldn't realy tell. Her hair texture is already pretty loose. She has thin, cotton soft, like baby texture hair.
As for mine, its has tight coils and thick. So neither Dulhan or Jamilla loosen my texture. I like the deeper cooper color that Jamila gives than the bright orange of Dulhan over grays. So I don't think I'll be purchasing Dulhan again once I use up my stash. But I found the Dulhan more drying than Jamilla that I have to do another moisurizing session tonite. HTH

Hey Ladies!
I'm glad I came here today. I was about to use the Dulhan henna. Good lookin' out...I don't want orange grays! LOL
So...I added some amla to the mix...the mixture now looks more brown...we'll see.
I'll let you know tonight!

OK...all was well with the henna'ing.
My hair isn't orangy...it's more brownish red...does that make sense? LOL
I like it...it covered the grays nicely.
My mix...100g Dulhan henna, green tea (first time I tried this), coconut water, olive oil, honey, and some amla...sorry, I don't ever measure. I just mixed until pudding-like. It rinsed out easily...I used Suave Coconut condish to wash it out.
I'm pleased!

The color is not too loud and it blends right in! Grays, what grays? ;-)

Oh, Great, I'll have to remember to add amla to my next batch to tone down the orange before the Indigo. Thx for the update.

Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
That looks really good! I'm going to try Jamila another time to see if I can truly make up my mind and report back on dryness/color/rinse ect. I did notice that dulhan was a little more "orange" in color but I sorta liked itTheRYL1 wrote:OK...all was well with the henna'ing.

Thank you very much, Curly Film Chick!
I think I'll mix amla when I use this brand because it does seem more orange than red. But, I agree..."I sorta liked it".

Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
Did you guys find that the Dulhan is a little drying? I did, so I did another DC on Sunday and it feels at lot better. And the color stayed the same, which is good

I'll say it was a "tad bit" (as my granny would say) drying. Meaning...my hair felt a little dryer, but not enough to cause me issues. Honestly, I think it was because I used more water (green tea & coconut water) instead of coconut water and oils only.
But, once I DC'd, all was well!
What other brand have you used?

Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
okay so I bought some henna from my local indian store, but I found that they didn't have Jamila or dulhan *groan* but they had their store brand henna (Kalustyan's for anyone in NYC) which is pretty reputable so I'm going to see if I notice any difference with that. I'll report back later!
Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
I had to check my stash. Currently I have Supreme Mehandi, Neha Rachni Mehandi, Dulhan and Jamila. I have also used Reshma. I prefer the BAQ's for safety reasons like the Neha Rachni Mehandi it comes in perfect small packaging with the hands on it. Its the one mostly carried by all the stores in my area.

The one I have is BAQ, it's sitting in my head right now. I can already forsee a long rinsing process because it doesn't seem that finely sifted
Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
Yeah, that's true BAQ do seem to require more rinising. Adding conditioner to the mix and while rinsing helps.
Are you steaming it in? Are leaving it in for 4 or less hrs?

I'm not steaming it in and I'm probably going to leave it on for more than 4 hrs (I have a lot of hair.) That and I have to run out in a little bit for some errands.
Re: Jamila henna vs Dulhan
Okay, update us on the results after you DC and dry.

Here's the results from the henna I used:

My formerly hi-lighted strands (and some gray hairs) are very red. It took a while to rinse out but my hair didn't feel very dry. Just in case I DC overnight and then rinsed again today.

I like the color. Your hair looks nice and moisturized too!
What did you add to your henna to get red instead or orange?

Thanks! This was actually right after I rinsed out the henna w/o DC or any product in it. I didn't mix my henna with anything other than green tea, so I think its safe to say that this is really great red dye content.
