"don't play in the sun"

This is the second time i have read this book. Marita Golden talks about her personal experiences of colorism. She tries to explain how the "importance" of color is taught subtly. She looks at her family's history, black history and american history to try to understand the meaning behind this phrase and how as a child she could feel it's importance.

Has anyone else read this book? or similar?

I'm watching this series of videos from this show but they reminded me of the book... Im actually reading the book again right now. I read it in class but feel like I skimmed through it so now I'm reading it again and its reaaaally interesting...
