Help, Over Protein, i think... Empty Help, Over Protein, i think...

Post by makeupvixen 24th August 2010, 10:19 pm

My hair is shedding at the root and breaking off as well. I can't really tell if it's too much protein or too much moisture. Maybe its a weather thing and summer is my shed time. I don't know... I have read a bunch of articles on the subject but can't pin point my problem to their suggestions. Can you ladies help me out?

Here's my regi:

Clarifying-ACV with rosemary, or hibiscus, or rose hips (once a month)
Shampoos- JBCO Shampoo or a poo bar (once a week)
Co Washers: Aussie Moist or Organix (any) mixed with JBCO (2x a week)
Conditioner-KBB Conditioner or Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp (with every wash)
Deep Conditioner-KBB Luscious Locs (once a week)
Detangler-Aussie 3 minute Miracle (once a month)
Summer Cream-Shea Moisture Hibiscus Enhancer with Marshmallow root powder, Oyin Whipped Pudding with Hibiscus powder or Qhemet Biologics Burddock Root with Vatika Oil (one of these combos everyday, a little goes a long way)
Winter Creams-Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream with Hair Veda Vitika Oils or KBB Hair Cream with the Hair Butter and Raw Shea Butter Mix and Heavenly Jojoba Oil (Not winter time yet but this will be what I will do)
Oils-JBCO, Avocado Oil, Sesame Oil, jojoba oil (Seal with every wash day)
Styling Cream-Oyin Shine and Define, Eco Styler Olive Oil or Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic (only when I wear my hair out)
Refresher-Oyin Handmade Greg Juice mixed with distilled water (spray everyday)

I henna once every 3 months, I just henna earlier this month.
In a panic I use Aubrey's Organic GPB to see if it will stop, but now it's not working.

I take one biotin tablet everyday, multi-vitamin, and a MSM pill for my back.

(I still rinse my roots everyday to keep my scalp clear and fresh)

Where am I going wrong? It's starting to break again and this regi use to work for me. (I haven't been relaxed in 7 years) and no heat for the past 5 months

This is the link to a great article about balancing protein and moisture in your hair products, and at the end, there are instructions on how to test your hair to determine if you have too much or not enough protein and moisture in your hair:

This was the very same article that got me confused Sad

I still don't know what's going on with my hair but Saturday I will take the ultimate protein surge by poring one cup of pure silk amino acid on my hair and be done with it. If it doesn't work then I will chop chop chop, if it does then I'm just lucky I guess.

Don't know what else to do. Just confused and frustrated I guess.

Yes I did. Some times my hair feels mushy, yet like straw too. I think I have different textures all over my head at this point and it's too hard to tell if it's a protein problem or not enough or too much.

It breaks off from the bulb and breaks off like chunks in the middle of the strand.

I don't have a perm, haven't had one in 7 years. I cut my hair last year, chin length so I'm all natural. I have been trying to use every good products and drinking water, plus vitamins but something is going on and I don't know what it is.

Like right now my roots are super dry yet there is oil all over my neck from moisturizing it. the rest of my hair is mushy mostly, then in the middle of the strand of hair it's straight and breaking, like heat damage but i don't have any heat damage. Don't know what's wrong.

IMO you might be protein sensitive:
1. Oils are not moisturizers. They seal the hair shaft and can lock out moisture.
2. I think you should simplify your routine in order to assess the problem. Try to use protein free products for two weeks and see if there is a change. Many of the products that you are using have protein in them.
3. Discontintue the ACV rinse for a month because it can be very drying, especially if you do not follow it with baking soda.
3. Try to reduce the rinsing and shampooing of your hair to once a week, so that your hair will retain more moisture.

So yesterday I tried to keep it very simple.

I rinsed out all product, no shampoo or conditioner. juat rinsed with warm water then cold water. I dried it with a microfiber towel, it was already detangled so I didn't mess with it. I spray on some greg juice (Oyin Handmade) and about a quarter amount of Oyin Whipped Pudding to two sections.

That's it.

Today I just sprayed a little of the Greg Juice on my hair and 3 drops of KBB Jojoba oil to my ends and put my hair under a scarf.

That's it.

How am I doing so far? It's really a change for me not to wash or touch my hair. So it this ok

My hair is still damp at the moment, The edges are rough and my ends are rough but no visible signs of split ends at all (I guess that's good) It's weird, my edges and roots feel like old hair. The length of the hair is smooth and enjoying the moisture but thew roots, ends, and edges are still dry and has a weird texture unlike the length

Sounds like you are making progress. The roots, ends and edges may need more moisture. Apply your hair butter to those areas and you may have to repeat the application daily.

Post by makeupvixen 1st September 2010, 10:25 am

I decided to go ahead and do the Bee Mine growth serum regimen. I know I am making my roots even dryer but it's forcing me to moisturize my hair even more. I'm hoping to do this until New Years Eve, while bunning and keeping my hair covered as much as I can. Hopefully this will help stop the breakage.

Today is my second day using it, so far so good. I don't have any reactions to it. The smell takes some getting use to but I moisturize with KBB Hair Cream and it masks the smell pretty well. I'm sealing with Vatika Hair Frosting.

What do you think? I'm I doing ok? What are your thoughts???

Sorry, but I do not know anything about the Bee Mine growth serum regimen, so I am unable to advise you. Maybe some of the other ladies can give you advice. Good Luck
