Detangling my short hair
Hi Everybody,
So I went natural last June (I cut off my hair myself...) and I've been having problems detangling my hair, so I did a trim and took off about half an inch so its now 4.5 inches long, but I have a lot of shrinkage. (Oh and I have 4a/4b hair, not sure what the difference is and I have super thick hair too)
Whenever I wash my hair and detangle it, it detangles really fine and smooth, but once I rinse the conditioner out, it goes back to being super tangled. And I can't do the twists, because my hair is too short and it would take too long to twist sections.
Can someone please help me??!!
Thanks

Re: Detangling my short hair
You sound like you could be my hair twin. However, I am able to twist my 1.5 to 3 inch long hair. What are you doing to your hair after you wash your conditioner out? Are you washing and detangling in sections? I know people talk about doing it in four sections but my cotton ball hair requires eight sections. Otherwise it is a mess. What products are you using?

I've used Pantene relaxed and natural condish, yes to cucumbers and Herbal Essences hello hydration. But even if I wash and detangle in sections, once I rinse the conditioner out, my hair tangles again. I don't know what to do :[

Re: Detangling my short hair
My hair does the same thing so I only finger detangle in the shower and do the "real" detangle after I get out of the shower.
My hair isnt long enough to twist after detangling either (well it is but I would have to put about 20 or more twist in my hair - which would take too long)

Thanks Lynnieluve, i think i'll try that, but I have a question.
How do you do the real detangling then? Like do you still use conditioner then rinse it off or do you do another procedure?

Re: Detangling my short hair
I apply my leave in conditioner, then I detangle with a wide tooth comb. I wear two strand twist most of the time so after I detangle, I apply my styler and twist it up.

Oh okay, so I can use my HE Hello hydration or Giovanni Direct Leave-In. I'll try it tomorrow or Thursday and post how it goes. Thanks so much everyone!

Re: Detangling my short hair
I have the same problem. I only have about 3.5 inches of 4b hair. I've detangled while the conditioner was in but once I rinsed it, I got so frustrated with my hair bc it seemed like it wouldn't completely detangle. I'm worried bc when I comb it, all the little curl balls start popping out. I use Giovanni and I love it but is there like a detangling conditioner?

in addition to washing hair in sections or even twists, rinse out the conditioners in ice cold water (even if you have to put ice cubes in the water...no j/k cuz i do). the cold water really seals/closes the cuticle, and as such, the hair can easily slide between one another making detangling go smoother. also, you can use qhemet bioligics detangling ghee as a great detangler aid.

Re: Detangling my short hair
When my hair was that length I would bag my hair for a couple hours with olive oil and fro like 2 hours, 1 hour in i would take the bag off and finger comb my hair then put the bag back on. When it came time to wash it out i would stand under the water and finger comb my hair always going in the same direction until i felt all the knots were out. Then I would apply wild hair growth oil or shea butter and and tie my hair down this way my hair would be detangled and also styled for the next day.
PS I just started combing my hair again i prefer to use my hands
