Shampoo Empty Shampoo

Post by Renny 27th June 2010, 9:48 pm

Well today was shampoo wash and DC day. I used my shampoo Nexxus Theratin (from the Phyto Organics line). The one I always thought I liked. You ladies have made a no sulfates believer out of me. I hated the way my hair felt when I finished. It was like straw. Pre-transition I remember thinking that feeling was the feeling of clean hair. Now that I've been caring for my hair with my products I realize it's the feeling of stripped hair. It was so bad I actually thought I'd ruined my poor hair, because it still wasn't that soft after my DC. I was so glad it bounced back after I put in my Giovanni Leave-in I didn't know what to do. I will be giving this brand new 32 oz. bottle of shampoo away. My sister will be very happy.

So now I need a shampoo. I love cowashing, but I'd like to have something around just in case I decide to shampoo. I have a sample of Giovanni Smooth as Silk. Does anyone else have a suggestion? I'm looking for something without "sodium laureth sulfate" or late cleansers. I'm thinking that is the culprit, because the Nexxus Theratin doesn't have any bad cones in it.

Thanks!

Some of the Sheamoisture shampoos at target don't have Sodium Laureth Sulfate. I have the African Black soap shampoo by Shea Moisture and it has no sulfates

Thanks Krazy coils. I like Shea Moisture so that's a big yes. Have you tried any of their conditioners? I love the Giovanni Leave-In, but I'm curious about their conditioners as well.

I finally found the the deep treatment masque this weekend but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. But there have been some good reviews on it. It can be used as a deep conditioner and a leave-in conditioner.

I recently went sulfate and silicone free too. I now make my own shampoo using Dr. Bronner's castille soap (ingredients below) mixed with water and some jojoba oil. I really like the way my hair feels when I'm done shampooing; it's not stripped and my curls seem to actually spring. I also have Burt's Bees Shampoo but I have yet to try it so I can't tell you much about it.

Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Natural Rose Fragrance, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol
* CERTIFIED FAIR TRADE INGREDIENTS
** None remains after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin

I second the Shea Moisture line @ Target. I use the Raw Shea Restorative shampoo. It uses Decyl glucoside as its cleanser. Very gentle. Leaves my hair clean without feeling stripped. The only con: if you are a heavy, cone or oil/butter user, you may need to poo twice to get them out.

Though I love the Smooth As Silk Condish, I don't care much for the shampoo. It dried my hair out something fierce.

Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo is also another good one. It's more expensive than the Shea Moisture and a little harder to come by (not avail in Target).

Thanks ladies. I picked up Giovanni's Tea Tree Treat at Marshall's yesterday. Reviews are pretty mixed on it. I got a sample of Carol's Daughter's Rosemary Mint Shampoo from Sephora (nice to try it for free) and I purchased a sample of Giovanni's Smooth as Silk from Walmart. I really wanted to go to Whole Foods and get Aubrey's Organics Honeysuckle Shampoo but it's too far. I'll see how I feel about these. I think they'll keep me busy for a few weeks since I only shampoo once a week before I DC.

I haven't found any shampoo that compares to KBB moisturizing shampoo. It literally feels like conditioner in my hair. Although I have tried to find something local...nothing has compared.

I am done wasting my money trying different shampoos. I'm sticking with KBB. It's my Holy Grail.

Well I tried the Giovanni's Tea Tree Treat. Hated it. I'll try the Carol's daughter when I wash next week.
