Name 1 Reason That You Went Natural

So for all of you guys that are on twitter, there is a natural hair community that i found on there! I was so happy

I have natural hair followers now and i asked them to name one reason they went natural and here were some of the responses.

#1 Reason for me in one word " versatality".

I was just tired of the relaxers and having that "creamy crack" burning my scalp. I hated sitting in the hair salon for hours at a time. I didn't like spending my money especially after I was a broke graduate student. Just couldn't afford it anymore.

I wanted to save the edges at my temples that perms and heredity were slowly eroding... They're growing back so beautifully now!

Tired of chemical burns and thinning hair.

My stylist stopped doing hair on my day.

I went natural because it was unacceptable to me that the only way I could style my hair with ease and grow it long was to irritate my scalp texturizing it.

my co-worker convinced me to, i was hesitant becuz i attempted years ago n got frustrated. this time i did extensive research on the proper care and hairstyles to dispell any myths i had. im now a month sober from the creamy crack!

i wanted to shatter the euro-centric idea of black beauty.

I wanted my hair to grow like it used too

I want big hair. Lots and lots of thick curly hair that I can do whatever I want to with.

Tired of my hair going through the constant cycle of growing and then breaking. I thought about going natural for a long time and decided that this was the year and I am happy!!

Dick Gregory spoke at an event on campus. He mentioned that Black women are more likely to suffer from fibroid tumors than women of any other race. He also noted that this was not the case as long as Black women used heat to straighten our hair, but that we only started to experience such a high rate of fibroids after we started relaxing our hair. I have fibroids and even though there is not certain proof of the connection, I didn't want to take the chance that I was making it worse putting creamy crack in my head every 4 weeks.

the idea of going natural never even occured to me until i was watching various young womenon youtube...i hated getting relaxers because i never felt like maintaining it--it always ended up in a ponytail...when i went away to college i did away with relaxers and did protective styling for an entire year...then when i took my hair out, i realized how much new growth i had--and it was so pretty!!! so i decided to cut off my relaxed ends and now i'm falling in love with my hair more and more each day

My hair was thinning from over processing.

Post partum shedding!!!!
