ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!? That is terrible news! I don't think I have any advice for you because I've never had heat damage. Have you deep conditioned since you got the damage? And this might be a folk tale but I heard that a beer rinse could help *shrugs* I would have to do more research on that though ... How did you get heat damage? Did you straighten your hair?
I am so sad to hear that news

WHAT?!?!? What happened? When I saw you last week your hair was simply beautiful and very tightly coiled.

Hey JNB,
Sorry about the heat damage. Did you use a heat protectant? Try doing a protein treatment and a moisturizing deep treatment. Also Prettydimples on youtube has a vid about using beer on your hair to help revert hair back.

Oh No! I don't have any suggestions but I pray it is resolved quickly for you! *hugs lil sis*

Sorry to hear about your heat damage JnB. I agree with Krazy Coils; protein treatment, dc and beer rinse. Wishing your hair a speedy recovery!

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving!
As you know, heat damage can be treated but cannot be cured. The only cure is cutting off the damage. Before choosing cutting, I say add protein--animal, hydrolized or mixed. It is more substantial than vegetable ones. I would not do more than one a week. Assess your hair and try again the next week. I would do this for at least a month before taking more drastic measures. Do not forget to stay moisturized after the protein treatments.
How's your mom's journey progressing?

Girl, we are in the same boat... I'm with Chrs though--don't write the parts off as a lost cause just yet... 2 DC's later, and now about 95% of my hair has reverted! Keep positive--everything will work out =)

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
Thanks everyone for your concern.
This is a slideshow of my hair up until BEFORE I think I suffered heat damage. My hair did NOT get damaged by THIS straightening attempt because I did it on low and it really didn't even get straight.
BELOW is the video where I discuss the heat damage that occured to my hair
And here is part 2 after I washed
I still don't really know if it's recovered. I did twists. So I can't really tell. I'm gonna do a wng one day when I'm home all day to check n see if the curls have come back. And continue to DC.
I plan to come back with lots of updates and pics today so stay tuned. Sorry I haven't been around. Busy busy.
Chrs, my mom is doing fine. She actually got her hair cut lower because she had some relaxed ends still left. She went to the salon and they used Design Essentials on her hair. She loves it. So she wants to buy it. YAY! Ya'll know I'm gonna try it so I'll let you know how it goes.
Sorry for so many videos. But I'm lonnnng overdue.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Do you think the product she used caused all the shedding?

That could be it. I'm not sure. I know they don't use all natural products.

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
OMG!! JnB!! Oh honey, That is awful... I know this is not a laughing matter but I have to say you were funny in your video and I can TOTALLY relate!! TOTALLY!! The part in the 1st vid where you pulled some hair out of your right puff and kinda gasped!!!!! OMG, I was almost crying/laughing because that was JUST like me. And again, I know it's not funny, but how it was so close to home for me was!! So anyway, I hope you can figure out why your hair started coming out. Have you been able to determine if it was shedding or breakage??? I sure hope you don't have to BC to correct it. that would be disappointing!!!
Mine (i think) has gotten better. I am attempting my first henna application either tonight or tomorrow. Probably tonight so it can stay on over night. Please let us know what your results were. Good luck girl!!

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
I agree with Chrs. Be patient with your hair. Since it hasn't been detangled for over 2 weeks I think it could be shedding. But if you say it doesn't feel right then go with your first mind and give it all of the TLC you can. *HUGS*
Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
Okay!!! I just wanted the first video, and I was like "STOP PULLING YOUR HAIR OUT!!!" I was so upset with you. Now you do know I have a appointment with her next week. I want to get a twisted up do. I know that she is going to want to braid my hair instead of twist it.
You know I am so confrontational; it will be so on up in there if she stepped to me with a blow dryer. Soooo....I'll just call and cancel today!!
Now back to the second video!!!

**sigh** I just watched the second video. I am so hurt for you, but lets stay optimistic and wait until you finish with your deep treatment. Maybe things will look and feel better then.
I'll check on you later. **sending you a real big hug**

You're right. Actually when I went back and looked at the video, I realized how funny it was. Lol. It's not funny, but I know exactly what you mean. I can be pretty dramatic. Lol

I wasn't really pulling hard. Even if I was to touch it, it would come out. I wasn't yanking it. Lol. If you gently run your hand through your hair and that comes out, that's a problem.
As for your appointment, perhaps you should call and ask. But if you do, please don't mention me. I haven't said anything to her yet and I don't want her to think I'm going around her back. Because I'm not. It's not her fault. But I can understand you not wanting to go. She will probably want to blow dry it. In fact, I remember when I was transitioning, she blow dried my hair before she did my styles. I didn't know much about healthy hair care at the time, so I thought nothing of it. So, I'd definitely keep that in mind. Let me know what you decide to do.

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
Hey JB! I'm sorry to hear about your heat damage issue. I'm so scared to straighten my hair for that reason. I've blow dried 2x and was a little shaky with that, too. I hope you can nurse your hair back to health. Other than that, I'm loving your frohawk! It's hawt!!!
Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
I didn't mean that I was upset with you (I know that's what I typed) What I meant was I was upset right along with you.
You know I will not mention your name at all. In fact, I will just say I can't keep the appointment because something came up. I still want to go back and let her trim my ends. I just can't have her blow drying my hair. No ma'am!!

Not to scare you, but my advice: don't do it. It's not worth it. Thanks btw!

Re: Struggles, Revelations, Progress, and of course LOTS of pics
So, was anyone able to see the pics I posted earlier? If not, here's just a few highlights of what you missed. Remember, this was PRE heat damage.
Fro hawk
I did my bangs to the front instead of the side like usual.
BEST WNG ever!!!
It even made it to day 3
I got lots of compliments. And I NEVER get compliments on WnGs.
Anyway, just posted these in case you couldn't see the slide show...
As far as the current condition of my hair, like I said, I'm wearing a twist out. My hair feels different. But you know. We'll see after I do a WnG.
