Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
ChrsLvsBks I didn't know Maka was king, lol. Yes, I used the Vatika oil, it's alright. I use it to pre-poo but other than that I'm scared about the extract of henna that's in it. Will it change my hair color?
Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
Yes, you read correctly, I'm going to a hair salon after work. After spending an entire year doing my own hair, I've finally decided it's time to let someone else do some of the work. I'm going to get it pressed (hopefully there won't be heat damage) and my ends trimmed. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. However the salon comes with good recommendations. Stay tuned...

I got my hair done My hair has grown so much from the last time I got it straightened over a year ago. The light was pretty bad so I couldn't get a shot from the back.
After Blowdrying
This morning
The stylist was really nice, she had no problem washing and conditioning my hair. All I know is she worked some type of miracle, because I did not know my hair could be soft after blow drying. I also didn't realize how dry my ends were until she asked me when was the last time I had a trim and deep conditioned. About 1/2 inch to 1 inch was trimmed off, think, but my hair needed it. Never will I wait that long again. No more self- trimming for me. Although she used some products that had silicone in them, they would protect my hair from the heat.

Ok, I had to click on them to make them bigger...she did a great job! It's so smooth.
Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
Yes, she did. Thank goodness it's 21F in NJ so there is no chance of humidity or heat or sweat ruining it.

Hey people. I don't celebrate Christmas but I hope you all enjoy the time with family and friends. Anyway, I'm finally comfortable with my natural hair, so I'm so to wear a very much undaone twist-out to dinner with my family. It's going to be teased and very fluffy. Kinda like this (I'm the one in purple).
I know some nosey aunt is going ask me a question that I'll answer politely and give her the side eye. However, I'm comtemplating printing out copies of this article and giving it to everyone so they won't dare talk about me perming my hair, lol.

I do not believe the amount of henna in the Vatika oil will change your hair color. Henna has to sit to allow the dye to release. In addition, it's amount is likely not enough to change the color.Neems wrote:ChrsLvsBks I didn't know Maka was king, lol. Yes, I used the Vatika oil, it's alright. So the new year is off to great start and I want it to slow down. I have all these ideas to try new things in my hair and not enough to do it all, lol. However I am excited for the NJ meetup in Feb. Hopefully it won't be snowed out, lol.

Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
This year is starting on a positive note, well as much as possible.
Over the weekend I attended a funeral and a few older women complimented me on my hair. They thought my twist-out was just so pretty and wanted to touch it. Even my granma remarked that she's planning to stop "creaming and dyeing her hair. Last but not least my cousin son's could stop playing in too.
Yep, natural hair is finally begin accepted in my family . Woohooo

Hey Neems! Happy New Year to you! I love that your granma has been inspired to stop putting chemicals in her hair. Family acceptance is always a beautiful thing. I know my own struggled for the longest. When they finally "ARRIVE", it's great!
Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
@poeticlyspkng it is a great feeling when family members jump on the natural bandwagon
Style Emergency- I need help
Hey Curlies,
Long time no speak. Last week I did some simple twists in my dry hair and set them on perm rods. It created a fabulous twist-out with body and shine. So, of course I wanted to see how long I could keep it in. So I faithfully covered my hair with a satin bonnet and went to bed every night.
Well this morning I was in for the show of my life. Using my fingers to fluff my hair out I noticed that my ends felt REALLY dry and tangled. Yeah, so what if I can't remember the last time I washed my hair. After careful examination with the mirror, I realized my ends have started to loc! Yes, my twist-out is locking. At this moment I'm sitting in work contemplating how I'm going deal with this tonight. I know I'm going to need tons of conditioner, H2O, and patience. Oh boy, I'm really trying retain length this year.
So much for a lazy hair style.

Re: Neems-- I Got A Compliment, From a Guy!
Hi Neems!
I feel you on the accidental loc'ing, it also happens to me if I leave twists in too long. You just need lots of patience...and oil. If you add water your hair will just shrink up more and get more loc'd. Use the oil first on the ends and go slow.
Good luck!
ps<--- For your twists outs you may want to re twist (in larger sections) and think about pineappling. I think that the ends rubbing against each other or against the bonnet is what causes the tangling.
