Your hair is beautiful

I went to a Humanitarian luncheon today and ran into 2 sistas. One a permie and the other, I'm not sure- she was braided up. Both proclaimed 'beautiful hair' during our encounters! I don't think about my hair so much anymore so both caught me off guard- in a good way. I don't know about you all, but I don't really feel like I need confirmation anymore. Still, it sure does a heart good to hear someone say it out of the blue. unsolicited. I was inspired to freestyle this poem about me and Thelma. and You and yours.

no need for heavy make up
nor complimentary tone
or even further embellishing
she can stand all on her own

she can rock it fast
or break it down super slow
her configuration seems to say
honey- this ain't just for show

to eyes that admire
pursed lips, and open stares
it's not that she can't appreciate
she's just come too far to care

Flourishing throughout her journey
yet temperamental all the while
she relishes in her crowd control
behind her sheepish smile

Each day brings one step closer
to being fully grown
she needs no introduction-
she stands fine on her own

*snap* *snap* love it

@KNH- thanks. I was feeling pretty proud of her. I added some glycerine to my spray and it seems like she was accepting!

Thanks Juices and CurlyA... Sometimes compliments inspire you to write, to smile, etc. I was glad to see my creative juices directed toward my hair. Toward OUR hair! Everyone on CN is an inspiration to me. The effort we put toward it, the creativity, etc. Gotta love it.

dmnnnnnnnn thelma is lookin good. (i like that name). i love the poem too, that was pretty cool. it does feel good for somebody to take notice n recognize real.

Nubie- you know I feel honored that you graced my Thelma with a resounding dmnnnnnnnnnnnnn! LOL! I love that they appreciate real and I hope it is an influence to them when they look in the mirror! It's quite ok to discard the unnatural and embrace the natural!
