How often do you trim your ends?
I'm a month natural now, I have already seen growth, But I have been worrying lately about how often or when should I get another trim of the ends..
The question is how often do you all you trim your ends?

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
Before I put down the scissors in January, I was cutting an inch off my hair every 2 months or so. I had the thought in my head that I was suppose to trim (I was cutting) my hair every 6 to 8 weeks. I have left it alone now and I just "dust" or do the "seek and destroy" method. No more chopping!

I only do a dust when I feel like it haha. I should probably do one more often. I did one about two weeks ago and my ends feel great.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't want to ever cut my hair and it wasn't needed. When I got my bc the hairdresser was like I have to come back between 5-6 weeks or shorter I was thinking I will never see no growth at this rate.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
Hey, ladies. I also get trims every 3 months (average). About 1/4", I usually don't need to trim much.
Re: How often do you trim your ends?
My last trim was during my last press (I think Mar 08).
I've never had to put scissors to my daughter's hair. Her ends are Perfect!!
I keep our ends sealed which (pretty much) omits the need to trim!
I think the seek and destroy method is great. Use it on my aunt's hair!

I read on another blog where the blogger's hair is past her bra strap that she hasn't trimmed her hair in 10 years! She says she's not destroying her ends in any way so she doesn't trim. I've been doing mine like 2 or 3 times a year since all I do is wash and go.

Ladies when you trim your ends is your hair straightened? Do you just trim your hair in its natural state?

I don't really trim my hair, just dust it in teists when I think it's about time.
I think it depends on how fast your hair grows and how your ends are.
You will definitely notice when your hair needs a trim. So far I don't think my hair has been damaged much because I don't use heat or anything.. But I'll get a real trim when I mark my 1 year anniversary.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I blow dry my hair when I trim. The last time I did it in it's curly state (stretched from twist out), I did a poor job. From now on, I will blow dry to trim my ends.
Also, I only trim when needed....not on a set schedule.

I either blow dry or straighten my hair to trim it. My last trim was in May 2010, and the one before that was in June 2009. I only trim when my I notice my ends aren't look good (split, fuzzy/frizzy, or too many single strand knots).

Im like Lynnie I dont really have a set schedule, Im trying to do at least every 6 months but we shall see. I seal my ends all the time and dont have my hair out alot other than weekends...I also have really had any problems with knots or anything so I keep the trimming minimal.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I haven't trimmed my ends in probably 7-8months. They were really brittle because of using the flat iron too much [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] , but I haven't flat ironed my hair in 3months and since then i've been taking better care of my hair. I've worn my hair in twist since the beginning of the summer and I can tell my hair is growing and it's alot stronger now. I think with wearing protective styles you don't have to trim as much. I'm also trying to learn to trim my own hair because whenever I go to the salon they get scissor happy! The last time I went the lady cut off two inches ughh

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I can tell when I need a trim when I get a lot of snags when I detangle with a comb, or when I try to finger comb and run into a lot of resistance, or just when my ends feel especially nasty. I usually don't straighten my hair to trim it-- I put in twists (maybe 40 total) and trim each individual one.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
OK. SO my mom went natural two years ago (she's 48 years old)...quite honestly i do not think it was a conscious decision. Her hair was breaking off so she decided not to perm it anymore. For the past two years, she's used all sorts of shampoos (including the ones with sulfate) and all kinds of conditioners (cones...petroleum etc)...no fancy products....no natural products ...and trimmed her ends last week (AFTER TWO YEARS OF BEING NATURAL).
Her hair is long....thick...nice...gorgeous....(she has 4c hair)...
So i am not planning on trimming my hair until next year. I'll just make sure i take care of my ends.
I guess what i'm trying to say is that i'm starting to wonder if all those things that we do (INCLUDING MYSELF) from using all natural products, to trimming every so often to not drying our hair using a towel, are necessary...
idk....
food for thought.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I do a twist-n-trim every six months and take off about two inches.
Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I'm with BajanPrincess82: I only trim when I notice my ends are showing signs of stress or damage (split, fuzzy/frizzy, or light-colored). I assess while conducting search & destroy for single-strand knots, then haul myself to my stylist (last time was about 3 years ago, or perhaps last year; obviously it's seldom). She trims it while wet and curly because neither she, nor I, use dryers or irons on my hair.

Re: How often do you trim your ends?
I trim whenever my ends are feeling damaged. Just trimmed in twists today.
Re: How often do you trim your ends?
That is great that your mom is able to retain length without doing anything special, but we are not all blessed with such strong (cannot think of a better word right now) hair. I've been natural all my life and see a HUGE different in my hair now that I'm using more natural products, babying my ends, and really paying attention to how I treat my hair. Now my hair is longer than it has been in years and this is the first stretch of time that I haven't had to trim my hair like crazy due to split ends. Everyone's hair is different and will respond differently to products and treatment. I say when you find a system that works for you, stick with it regardless of what the rest of the natural community thinks of your products and product ingredients.fanmnatirel wrote:OK.
