This is very upsetting!!! Dreadlocks or not their hair is till natural and I cant believe they had the nerve to actually use that as an excuse!!!!! I hear a lawsuit for discrimination coming up!!! It is 2010 people...

As long as an employee does their job well based on the standards of the company and isn't projecting a negative image, what does it matter what a person's hair looks like? As long as it's neat and well groomed with good hygeine, there shouldn't be a conflict. I have an interview today at a tertiary medical facility and hope my hair isn't an issue. It shouldn't be!

That is ignorance. Hell it is SIX FLAGS!! And there are a lot of women with natural hair including locs that have very professional and corporate jobs. That is sad and ridiculous.

It is ridiculous, I agree and I work in HR. But employers can add that to their requirements for the position, when I was in High school and worked for Disneyland the way your hair, nail length, color of polish, hair color all was a part of your uniform, earrings no larger than a dime. Men couldn't have sideburns, beards, or a clean shaven head. I remember a girl being sent home cause she had on red finger nail polish on. I always wondered why everyone kind looked the same at disneyland, well you sign you employee handbook during orientation so that you understand you can only look a certain way while working for them. I used to think shoot it's only Disneyland but I guess they have an "image" they are trying to uphold. I soo hated working there.

Unreal, thanks for sharing! Old standards won't die! Unfortunately we buy into it most times. I am happy these two are fighting the good fight.

If that lady was hired last year, they can't say she's not being hired this year because of her locs because they clearly overlooked that before. I don't think locs are an "extreme" hairstyle.

My first job was at Astroworld (it was a part of Six Flags) many years ago. It was their policy that females could only have no more than two ponytails (this was during a time when no one really wore ponytails). Braids were beginning to be popular and a young lady wore her hair braided with a ponytail in the front and loose in the back. Beautiful hairstyle and it looked youthful as well as professional. Management made her take the braids out or she was going to be terminated. Their reasoning was because she had more than two braids in her hair. She only had them for a week or two next thing we knew the braids were gone. I'm very disappointed to read nothing has changed with this establishment.

This is in my community and very saddening. I had been hearing stories about issues some young people have been having while working there. I also had locs for 5 years and there are some defininte preconceived stereotypes associated with the hairstyle. This Six Flags has been busing in young people of other nationalities to work there. I know this because I see them in their Six Flags uniforms in the grocery store, Target, walking down the street, at the bus stop, and just walking in the neighborhood in the nearby apartments where they are housed. This wouldn't be an issue if they weren't denying jobs to American citizens and county tax payers. I am outraged by this....it's absurd. I hope the two ladies sue and win. There was similar situation with the DC Fire Dept. and the guys sued and won.

Wow, length requirement I understand to a certin degree. Hair pulled away from the face and such. But as long as it neat and presentable there should be no issue. Disgrace & lawsuit!

I also heard this on the Tom Joyner show this morning. It is quite absurd, asinine and unprofessional. Perfectly qualified individuals but the appearance of their hair renders them from getting the positions. What's next?
