I don't know if anyone has gotten this comment but. Why do some people believe that natural means just wearing a afro all the time.
Has anyone ever recieved this comment before?

I never gotten it, but I guess it's because some people perceive natural is just letting your hair do it's thing without styling.

I have from my mom, black friends, white friends. There is nothing wrong with rocking an afro if it suits you but it's not for me so I always find it annoying but then I remember that a few months ago when I was COMPLETELY ignorant, I thought that's all my hair could do if I went natural. So it's just about education.

One day I had my hair styled in some kind of pinup instead of a fro and my brother says, "I thought you were going natural"? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] So yep, I've gotten it!

Yeah I think that kind of thinking is due to ignorance of all the wonderful things our hair can do! People don't think that you can style natural hair. You have to just wear a fro and that's the only option you have which, of course, is not true. So we have to keep educating by example and sharing information with those willing to hear us Smile

Unfortunately there are many people who have no knowledge of the versatility and beauty of our natural hair. Therefore it is important that we educate those who don't reconize the endless possibilities we have when it comes to styling our hair.

When I told my friends(they're white) that I was going natural, they were like: wow!! so you're gonna have an afro!!
Can't blame them because they don't know much about our hair

Well, before I went fully natural over six months ago, I thought the only way that I could wear my natural wear was by wearing a fro or locs. It wasn't before I started researching and coming on hair boards that I found out that natural hair is extremely more versatile than that. So it's just a matter educating people.
