I am new to the natural community via forums. I haven't had a relaxer since 2001 so I've been natural 9 years but I've always pressed and flat ironed my hair. I was always trying to keep it straight like it was in it's relaxed state or I thought I didn't have "good hair" to wear it in it's natural curly state. So january 1,2010 I decided to use no heat and wash and condition my hair and just wear it as a WnG. Well it has been almost 4 months with no heat but I noticed my hair is really frizzy. I think I need to trim my hair so I flat ironed it and trimmed it. And I hate it straight! I just want to stick my head in the shower. So I think I will join this challenge to try and figure how I can build my hair confidence. My hubby is very supportive. But other family members always ask me what is "wrong" with my hair? And how they don't like it.

Welcome!!! We are here to offer whatever support you need. I haven't used heat on my hair since I have been natural but others in here have. I am sure they can provide some insight. Can you post a regimen and list of products you use?
Again welcome.

Re: npmoore04
Ireally don't have a tried and true regimine. I use mixed chicks shampoo, cond leave in and deep conditioner. I bought this cause I had no clue what other products were out there. And I saw their website and videos. But after seeing these forums there are so many other products to try. I don't care for the shampoo it seems like it dries my hair out. I love the deep conditioner because it is good with detangling. But I am finding out there are cheaper brands that can do the same thing. Like V05 moisture milks. And the herbal essence line. But I am forcing my self to finish up the mixed chicks. I use eco styler with tea tree oil for my twist outs. This is my newest venture. Where I live there is a large asian population so I have yet to find a shea butter. Just found evco in the vitamin section of walmart. I just have no clue what will help me main moisture. I will add more photos on some other styles I've tried. Once figue out how to post them. Thank you ladies for encouraging me. I have a 4yr old daughter who always says she loves my big hair and she wants big puffs like me. I want to keep her natural. I don't want her to go through what I did with relaxers, presses and breakage.

Has some free time for myself today. So I think I will try some flat twist on my hair. I did them one time before going all back in 6 twist then braided the 6 twist in two braids. Just wondering what direction to braid them in.

Re: npmoore04
Today is a beautiful day in Cali. Wore my flat twist in a side bun. I twisted my nieces hair last night. I am helping them with transitioning they both have perms. But due to them not taking care of them there hair has broken off. I will do a BC on the 10 yrs old next week and put some kinky twist in her hair. The 7 year old doesn't have as much breakage but loves how I where my hair in twist and bantu knots. I am happy to have a positive influence on them. The 10 year old is having a hard time letting got if the straight ends. She said she doesn't want nappy hair. Any on have suggestions on how to motivate kids into natural hair.

Check out www.beadsbraidsbeyond.blogspot.com This is the blog of one of the curlies on this forum NikG. Its a blog to help care for childrens hair. I bet if you show your nieces how their hair can look, they will be excited. She had a ton of style to try too. Her daughter is mixed but has 4a hair.

The 10 year old has 4c hair and she hates the thickness of her hair. I told her that her hair was beautiful and that she isn't white. Thank you for the link.

I will be loading pics tomorrow of all the styles I had these past couple of days. Today I will be taking out my two strand flat twist I've been wear in a bun. So I will be wearing my twistout and I thinking about going to walmart to get some material so I can make me some headbands out of satin to wear with my twist outs.
