Post by Nikcoils 26th March 2010, 3:17 pm

I am new to the natural community via forums. I haven't had a relaxer since 2001 so I've been natural 9 years but I've always pressed and flat ironed my hair. I was always trying to keep it straight like it was in it's relaxed state or I thought I didn't have "good hair" to wear it in it's natural curly state. So january 1,2010 I decided to use no heat and wash and condition my hair and just wear it as a WnG. Well it has been almost 4 months with no heat but I noticed my hair is really frizzy. I think I need to trim my hair so I flat ironed it and trimmed it. And I hate it straight! I just want to stick my head in the shower. So I think I will join this challenge to try and figure how I can build my hair confidence. My hubby is very supportive. But other family members always ask me what is "wrong" with my hair? And how they don't like it.

Welcome!!! We are here to offer whatever support you need. I haven't used heat on my hair since I have been natural but others in here have. I am sure they can provide some insight. Can you post a regimen and list of products you use?

Again welcome.

Ireally don't have a tried and true regimine. I use mixed chicks shampoo, cond leave in and deep conditioner. I bought this cause I had no clue what other products were out there. And I saw their website and videos. But after seeing these forums there are so many other products to try. I don't care for the shampoo it seems like it dries my hair out. I love the deep conditioner because it is good with detangling. But I am finding out there are cheaper brands that can do the same thing. Like V05 moisture milks. And the herbal essence line. But I am forcing my self to finish up the mixed chicks. I use eco styler with tea tree oil for my twist outs. This is my newest venture. Where I live there is a large asian population so I have yet to find a shea butter. Just found evco in the vitamin section of walmart. I just have no clue what will help me main moisture. I will add more photos on some other styles I've tried. Once figue out how to post them. Thank you ladies for encouraging me. I have a 4yr old daughter who always says she loves my big hair and she wants big puffs like me. I want to keep her natural. I don't want her to go through what I did with relaxers, presses and breakage.

Has some free time for myself today. So I think I will try some flat twist on my hair. I did them one time before going all back in 6 twist then braided the 6 twist in two braids. Just wondering what direction to braid them in.
