Hey Ladies-

I am a little frustrated, my hair is getting thicker (growing out) but it's not growing down (getting longer). I have been transitioning for 9 months but don't see the growth I was hoping for.

Is anyone else experiencing this?? What did you do?

YES I'm going through the same thing...but guess what...I DO Nothing! There isn't much to do..with nappturall hair..but let nature take its course...our type of hair grows up, out and then down...that just the way it is...you have to wait till your hair get longer then what it is to start to grow down...that time will come...

Be nappily..happily...

my hair is doing the same thing.. up, out.. then down.. 3c hair here..

I notice now, it automatically is going down.. when i wash it that is how it falls. It use to look like an afro.. but i cant get it to do that anymore.

who figure. But i'm determined.

My hair is doing the same thing. I have gotten to the fact that I had to change my mental health regarding my hair. Once I did, it started looking longer. I just said oh well this is me and I got to love me no matter what else anyone else thinks. This site and my husband helped me think differently. It's all about attitude and self love. I love my puffy hair now and like MicaiahTy mine is starting to lay down and won't be like a fro unless I don't do my conditioning and curly primer routine. It will only puff now if I just leave it dry. Then it is a horror.

My hair does the opposite. I'm a layered APL right now and my hair just falls down. I can never do an afro, which is why I have no idea what I'm gonna do for "National Afro Day". I might just end up with a braid out lol

Hello Ladies,

I am currently going through the same natural hair frustration also. I have been growing for the last 10 months and it just seems like its not going anywhere. I have ear length hair but it WIDE as all outside LOL. I watch alot of Youtube videos to get styling ideas ot techniques, however a majority of these videos are women with apl or bsl hair...... which just makes me envious and criticize my own hair LOL....

What I do to take my mind off of it, I look at pics of when my hair was processed and damaged, I remember the my addiction to wearing weaves to make my hair look better. Then I go sit in my mirror and compliment myself on how much healthier my hair is, how far I've come and smile.

Hope things get better for you and Happy Growing!

Thank You Shante i feel so much better now!!!!....I think i will put braids in for 2 more months that will put me at my 1 year and then i can see from there if its any less frustrating...If it would just fall over or if i can get a ponytail out of it...

UGH!!!!...LOL...

Before the second chop, my hair definitely grew out and then started to fall at around month 6 or 7. By the time my year mark came around, I had THIS:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

That was my hair, freshly washed, NO PRODUCT (with...CRAZY DEFINITION now that I really look at it!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] WTF??), and a little shrunken from air drying. (And don't mind the stink face...the boyfriend was getting on my nerves. As usual. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ) I would LIKE to have hair that just grew OUT and stayed BIG, but I do like/miss the curly bob so I'm looking forward to it again. Well, it depends on how much hair you started with when you BC'd. I transitioned for six months, and had a few inches to start with. Two to three months after the FIRST BC in Dec '08, I was wearing puffs. Three months after THAT, I was doing the wash/shake and go. Then another three months after THAT, my hair started to weigh itself down. Had I started with a "clean slate" and cut EVERYTHING off, my hair wouldn't have been that length/size in the pic. It probably would have been half that.

So if you started with a fresh BC that was to the white meat ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ), it'll take a little while. Just be patient, and have fun with it. Next thing you know, you'll have a curly bob! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

My hair is finally falling down and will not stand up like it used to. It will flop over a headband if I wear one and it seems like it took FOREVER to get to this point. I've been wearing my hair natural for 1 1/2 years now so all I can say is be patient.
