The Conditioner Review Empty EO Chamomile and Honey

Post by *CurlyNikki* 4th November 2009, 7:57 pm

Conditioner Name: EO Chamomile and Honey
Consistency: Not very thick, but not runny--just right.
Fragrance: Herbal-y
Result:Left my dry, dry, dry. I'm guessing the protein...but boy, did my hair feel miserable.
Uses: A great rinse-out and detangler for those that aren't protein sensitive
Slippage: Lots
Purchase from: iherb.com

The Conditioner Review Empty Re: The Conditioner Review

Conditioner Name: Back to Basics Pomegranate Conditioner
Consistency: Thin
Fragrance: Not pleasant, IMO. Not sure what to liken it to.
Result:Left my dry, dry, dry. I'm guessing the protein...but boy, did my hair feel miserable.
Uses: Does provide some moisture...a good rinse-out conditioner.
Slippage: Keep looking...very little slippage
Purchase from: Trade Secret

Conditioner Name:
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine
Consistency: Thicky Thick Smile
Fragrance: Clean, and a little sweet
Result:Good slip, great hold, only slightly moisturizing. I'd definitely pair it with a more moisturizing conditioner, or at least add a moisture intensive conditioner to your ends.
Uses: Great conditioner stlyer...although it has slip, its still not the best detangler
Slippage: Keep looking...very little slippage
Purchase from: Drug Stores
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Conditioner Name: Generic Value Conditioning Balm
Consistency: Very thick, actually feels like elmers glue.
Fragrance: Clean
Result:Poor slip, unless you add a bit of water. It's too thick to get out of the bottle, and goes on rough.
Uses: Great deep treatment in combination with other ingredients (oils, honey, etc.). It's a good rinse-out for extra conditioning, but probably not ideal for detangling.
Slippage: Keep looking...very little slippage
Purchase from: Sally's Beauty

Conditioner Name:
DevaCare One Condition
Consistency: Thick
Fragrance: Citrusy
Result:Good slip, great hold, great moisture.
Uses: Great conditioner stlyer...although it has slip, its still not the best detangler. It makes a great deep conditioner as well.
Slippage: Decent, but IMO, not enough to detangle.
Purchase from: Ulta, CurlMart.com
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Conditioner Name:
Oyin Honey Hemp
Consistency: Very thin
Fragrance: Sweet (fruity)
Result:Excellent slip, but very light on moisture. It has no hold, so also doesn't make a great conditioner styler.
Uses: detangler, rinse-out, and DT in combo with other products
Slippage: Awesome
Purchase from: Oyinhandmade or Curlmart.com

I ordered the Deva Care One condition per ur website...and i love that stuff! Although it doesnt give me a strong hold, it gives me a very moisturized soft hold which is great when im in a mood for a curly fro!

The Conditioner Review Empty Re: The Conditioner Review

Post by fauxmixedhair 27th January 2010, 8:42 pm

I have been natural for a few years, but just recently found this new world of naturals on the internet (Thank you for your site!). I am confused about the whole conditioner thing. So, I see people talk about a leave in conditioner, a washing conditioner and a deep conditioner. Could you explain the difference wrt these three? I started doing the co-wash but realized (from reading online) that there are certain conditioners you wash with and certain ones you deep condition with.

Please explain the difference among the three and what kind of conditioners to use in each instance. Again, many thanks for your site.

@ FauxMixedHair - Many people co-wash with the cheaper conditioners (Vo5, Suave, etc.) since that is going to be rinsed out and you will use more of it if you co-wash regularly.

Deep Conditioners are just that, you will use those and sit under a heat source with a plastic cap or a steamer w/o a cap. Once complete you will rinse out and continue styling your hair. Many people use (Aussie Moist, DevaCare, Jessicurl, etc.)

Leave-ins get a little more tricky and really depend on how you are styling your hair. You can use the conditioners that are specific for leaving in. Those are usually lighter and do not provide a whole lot of hold (typically in a spray form).
For more of a hold (if you are doing twists, braids, or any out styles) many poeple use a heavier conditioner as a leave-in. Herbal Essence (any), Giovanni, or any other conditioner that you like can be used for this step; you just need to experiment to find the right one.

I hope this helps! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
