Rise of the Phoenix
Sup guys?
*
So, I wanted to join this challenge on January 1st, but my computer turned on me and I had to take it to the shop to get repaired. But now that it's out and up and running, I couldn't wait to get started.
For starters, I want to give a little bit of hair history. When I turned about 5 years old, I started getting perms, up until October 2007, my senior year of high school. When I BC'ed in March 2008 after months of pressing (big no-no, and I wish I hadn't!), I have to admit I that my initial reaction was one of shock and fear. Going from almost armpit length straight hair to barely an inch of coarse, kinky hair forced me to make a big adjustment. That night I cried for fear of the unknown, but when I woke up in the morning, I took a good long look at my hair and fell in love with each and every napp, kink, and coil. I realized that my hair was like that of a phoenix, rising from the ashes of the fire-like relaxers that I had been getting most of my life. As my hair continues to rise and grow, I'm excited to share/document my hair journey here on CN.com.

*This was a combed out braidout, taken a little more than a month ago. I was stretching my hair to be dyed.

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
Welcome! I bet we will get some nice pictures from you. It looks like it is one of your passions, am I correct?
What color did your dye your hair?
Sorry for all the questions.

Hair today
1 day old, busted looking twistout
When I took my twists down yesterday, I was looking fly, but today my hair isn't so great. It's flat and just... well, I've seen better twistouts (especially using Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey).
I'm thinking my hair may not be looking so great because I have buildup (been a little more than 2 weeks since I've clarified), but I dunno. But when I retwist tonight, maybe I'll use some oil and spritz with water...

@ChrsLvsBks
Thanks for the love
Yes, I do love photography. Been at it since my 10th grade year of highschool. I'm going to try my best to post some creative pics
Well, I attempted to dye my hair a more reddish brown, but it didn't work... I think the brand was Soft 'N Beautiful or something, I can't remember. My hair is still visibly jet black, but if you put a light behind it, it'll look like my hair is red... But I digress lol.
& no worries, I love questions!

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
Last night, I only retwisted. I sprayed some leave-in on, and I've seen a little improvement with my twistout (will post some pics a bit later). I'm thinking that I'm just going to have to go ahead and shampoo and restyle in the upcoming days though. :/ Whatever.
-Side note- Thanks for all of the love! I feel so welcome

After I took my twists out. I don't know if you can tell, but my ends are super rough Maybe a deep treatment or trim could do the trick? What do you think?

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
Have you tried to baggy your ends?
Before you trim, try to add your favorite rich conditioner/oil mix just to your ends (put the hair in a ponytail) and baggy with a plastic bag secure the bag with a rubber band and sleep overnight with it then rinse out in the am. Do this 2-3x week and see how that works out for you.

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
This definitely helped me. I have been doing it off and on for the last couple of weeks. I was using a mix of castor, EVOO and coconut oils.Intelligentbeauty wrote:Have you tried to baggy your ends?

I have baggied at night before, but only when I was doing puffs for that week. Maybe I should revisit puffs some time in the near future.
I'm not too sure about my last real trim. It was maybe... 4 months ago? It's probably about that time again.
------
After going to the gym today, I'm going to attempt a Twist-N-Curl! Last time I tried it, it didn't come out so hot because I had build-up like a motha. But I'm not too discouraged after seeing so many beautiful results on this site and all over the youtube. Wish me luck!

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
So...
I ended up not doing TNC yesterday because I had a late start on doing my hair. I just did some medium sized twists, and unraveled them this morning as carefully as possible because they were a little damp. So far, they look okay even though it's drizzling a bit outside. But I have to say it looks sooo much better than my last twistout. The main thing that I did different from last time was using a little of Mane and Tail Shea and Aloe Creme on each section. My hair is more moisturized, soft, and has a little sheen!
But when I can find my shears, I'm definitely going to do a trim. When twisting my hair last night, I noticed that my ends were screaming for it.
Hair pics for today are on the way!

Re: Rise of the Phoenix
Hey ladies!
I know I'm late, but here are yesterday's pics. It was shrunken a bit, but I still liked it. And excuse my raggedyness. It was first day of classes, and I didn't really care to put on makeup and stuff lol.
That night, I did some big twists with a little hair honey rubbed in them, and unraveled in the morning. I'm so excited that my hair is looking GREAT on this second day (compared to that last busted a** twistout... ) I'm going to take some pics and try to have them on here before today ends.
Hope all is well,
Senora

Hair Flashback - KimmayTube's Tuck 'N Go!
was looking through old pictures, and I found this:
It was my first Tuck 'N Go by the genious hair youtuber. I just wanted to share it with my fellow curlies/nappies who are trying to do some protective styling, but can't find one that they like. I like this because it's versatile, cute, and ultimately cute.
The main thing that I did differently from Kimmay was that I did this on previously stretched (twistout) hair. I attempted this while my hair was wet/damp, but my hair was like "b*tch please" and wouldn't stay put while I tried to pin it down. If your hair is thick like mine, I'd advise stretching first.
Hope this helped!
