My transition thus far..
first post here. Just wanted to share my transitioning experience so far with you guys.
My last relaxer was September 3rd, so I'm right around 4 months post.
I got my hair weaved up because the 2 textures were getting annoying. After only five weeks my braids are coming pretty loose so I'm actually getting it taken down tomorrow..From now on I'll probably be doing a lot of bantu knot-outs/twist-outs/etc.
As for the BC, we'll see. I'm getting really antsy and I'm tempted to cut off my relaxed hair as soon as I remove the weave, but I think it's best to wait until I have just a little more hair. I seriously doubt I'll be transitioning past March, though.
Some photos of my hair journey so far:
100% relaxed:

chopped all the relaxed ends off my edges to get a better idea of what my hair looks like. still pretty unsure about my hair type, lol.

and that's all for now

Congrats on your decision to transition. Keep us posted with your progress and remember to make sure you moisturize and seal that hair no matter what style you're rockin.

Congrats on the decision to transition!!! In my opinion if you already trimmed the perm of the edges start "secretly" cutting. The 2 textures are annoying but once all the permed edges are gone, your natural curls would really POP and look fab, plus you hair would be healthier and could potentially yield faster growth results. Good Luck with you decision

I am new to the site, Glad to be here! Please! Please! Please! give me ideas on things i can do to make my transition easy! For instance some hairstyles and such. I am so happy to be here. I WILL NOT DO THE BIG CHOP! i have a cut that is natural in the back but in the front i have a lil bit of relaxer on the ends of my hair. I want to keep that until i have enough courage to do the BC! Once again glad to be here!

Hi rosyhours! We are in the same boat. I last relaxed at beginning of Sept, too. I've also been thinking about cutting the relaxed edges off of the hair at my nape since it's now more natural than relaxed. Have you joined the 3M growth challenge? You should. It would be great to see someone else who is at the same stage of the process that I am.

Hello Ladies! My last perm was in June 2009. I have decided to chop off the relaxed ends on March 20th, the first day of Spring. I'm so ready to do it now, but want to wait for more lenght. I have been wearing braids for the last four weeks. I am going to try a twist out this Saturday after I remove these 4 week old braids. I am super excited about going natural.

I am about 10 months into my transition and I have already cut about an inch 1/2 of relaxed ends. I can't take it!...however I too need a lil more lenth before I cut the rest of it off. I have about 4 in of au'natural but I want about 3 more inches so I'm thinking May..if I can make it that far out...

Re: My transition thus far..
Sleepyeyes- Welcome.
How far into the transition are you? Read, read, read (the newest book Thank God I'm Natural), but now, you can find so much online, just do your research! Videos on this website and Youtube can be helpful for style options. Keeping my hair well moisturized, pampering the new growth, and sealing ends each day have helped me to keep my length. My favorite style is the flat twist-out & curl. Any style that's more akin to the natural hair and allows you to blend the relaxed ends.

Rosyhours - nice to see your pics. Let's keep in touch, perhaps we can plan a meetup in the Albany area if we find others who are interested.
