Re: Hey Little Sisters!
PS- Alot of BIG Sisters don't mind having more than 1 lil sis! If you see someone that you want to be your big sis, dont be afraid to ask if she can take on another!
I am so happy to see so many sisters stepping up to help. We all remember how it was starting out!
I had never BC'd with a TWA. When I did my last BC, I was scared to DEATH!
My family and friends were supportive! My man (at that time) was not! He told me I was going to wake up and see that a perm had been put in my hair! He told me, my POOF would be gone! So POOF, he was GONE!
Ok, so I am rambling! lol- it is close to midnight! Oh lord I am about to start singing Thriller!!

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
Abisco- I have a couple of textures on my head- around the outside (front back and sides it is a combo of 3c/4a (intertwined in there together )and in the crown in 4b. Then theres one small part in the crown that is a definite 3c! It's the craziest thing!
Then let me tell you this (goes to whisper)...something I found out the hard way. When I first started truly taking care of my hair, I was obsessed with finding my hair twin. I found her or so I thought. Well my hair twin wasnt protein sensitive! I AM! So even if a person has your same TYPE- each head is different. This whole process is about finding what works for you. As a big sister we are here to help you find a smoother process. On this board I have seen a 4c adopt a 3a.
LearninToLove- No, the Big Sister is here to help, with the journey. For example, Lil sis looking for big sister that was a long term transitioner. Lil sis in process of transition looking for Big Sis who recently BC'd!

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
Thanks NylaCoils. I'm not even sure about what textures I've got on my head apart from them being quite tight so I think I should really abandon the hair twin search until I'm properly acquainted with my hair!
Would you be able to look over my product list and give me any tips if you have a mo, please?

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
Here are my products that I've got so far:
Shampoo - Soft Sheen Carson Optimum Oil Therapy
Condish - Soft Sheen (same but condish)
DC - Elasta QP DPR 11
Am a bit confused with the moisturiser/sealant front - I thought they were the same thing. I created a mixture of the following:
Also
is it possible to DC without heat? I don't have a heat cap or dryer and
am not sure I'm supposed to use my normal hair dryer with the DC.
(I copied text from my original products post - http://www.curlynikki.forumotion.com/products-f4/newbie-products-t1547.htm )
Thanks

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
What are the ingredients in the shampoo? Does it contain any sulfates? Does the conditioner contain any cones? Dimethicone is ok, because it is water soluble. I currently use black soap or baking soda to cleanse. Are you transitioning?
Your moisturizer sounds good- I may have to make that but with safflower oil- olive tends to dry my hair out.
The sealant is applied to ends to seal in the moisture. Moisturizer is applied daily to keep hair from drying out.

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
Hallo ha, sorry for late response. Been taking the pesky braids out.
I think the shampoo and condish both have some naughty ingredients. Will read bottle and list them out tomorrow.
I was transitioning but in a couple of hours I will be doing the BC - wish me luck!

Does it look terrible? I thought I looked like Grace Jones when the barber first showed me, so I made him take more of the top.

Thanks for the compliments ladies. I'm not just fishing [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] - my brother has spent the whole day trying to convince me I don't look like a boy! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
@NylaCoils - That song is going to be getting some serious play on my ipod for a while now!

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
Yes, like the ladies wrote, your eyes and your cheekbones definitely do not make you look like a boy. Your features are symmetrical, and you are beautiful. (I was just thinking, I am glad I am a woman. Men cannot say this to one another. Sorry for going off on a tangent.)
Re: Hey Little Sisters!
@ NylaCoils I just have one question so far. And it is: Is it important to use all natural products in order to have healthy natural hair. I know that mineral oil and petroleum is bad for my hair from personal experience. What do you recommend?
Re: Hey Little Sisters!
@ChrsLvsBks - Thanks and that's so true about men being unable to say the same thing to each other!
@NylaCoils - here are the ingredients for the shampoo and conditioner I'm using at the mo:
Shampoo - Aqua/Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Chloride, Glycol Distearate, Cocamide Mipa, Glycerin, Disodium Ricinoleamido Mea-Sulfosuccinate, Polyquaternium-10, Carbomer, Parfum/Fragrance, Disodium Edta, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Sodium Hydroxide, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Amyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, Olea Europaea/Olive Fruit, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, 2-Oleamido-1, 3-Octadecanediol,Simmondsia Chinensis/Jojoba Seed oil, Cocos Nucifera/Coconut Oil, Persea Gratissima/Avocado Oil, Laurdimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolysed Wheat Protein. [sigh of relief as I can stop bending over to check shampoo bottle whilst typing...and starts it again for the conditioner [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ]
Conditioner - Aqua/Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Paraffinum Liquidum/Mineral Oil, Dicetydimonium Chloride, Ceteareth-20, Cetyl Acetate, Phenoxyethanol, Proplyene Glycol, Parfum/Fragrance, Polyquaternium-22, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Panthenol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Amyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl
3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Benzyl Salicylate Limonene, Olea
Europaea/Olive Fruit, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, 2-Oleamido-1,
3-Octadecanediol,Simmondsia Chinensis/Jojoba Seed oil, Cocos
Nucifera/Coconut Oil, Persea Gratissima/Avocado Oil, Laurdimonium
Hydroxypropyl Hydrolysed Wheat Protein.
I've already spotted some naughty ingredients...do you think I would be able to dilute the shampoo and conditioner to lessen the harm of them?

Re: Hey Little Sisters!
I have used mineral oil producuts Ms Jessie's buttercreme to be exact. I Liked it ALOT! I never really experienced the buildup that is associated with using mineral oil . Currently, I am no longer using that product. I am using mostly all natural products at this time. My hair is so soft as a result. Remember, no 2 heads are the same and you must listen to what YOUR hair is saying.
Keep a hair journal and log what you are using and how your hair responds. For example, in the summer, my hair likes olive oil, in the winter it does not. In the winter, my hair likes coconut oil- in the summer it does NOT! Go Figure!!!
