Twist or braid outs to hang

So im not sure if its because my hair shrinks but is there a specific way to do twist outs and braid outs so the hair can hang down?
I am 9 months natural and i have a pic attached on how long my hair is sorta. lol

I know sometimes ppl talk about hair growing out instead of down so im not sure if thats the case...

Should i use a product to weigh it down? I only twist with shea moisture smootie is that why??

I am having this issue now, but I think that when my hair gets some more length to it it will hang some more. I have a nice length now so it hangs more than it did a few months ago.. So as my hair gets longer, I feel that I will have more hangtime...LOL

Maybe try stretching your hair first before doing the twists or braids. Or maybe even do them on dry hair helps to give some length..

You are gonna have to wait until your hair gets a little longer before your twist outs and braid outs will hang.

That is so funny. I used to love when my twist outs stuck out. Now my hair looks flat now that is hangs. Enjoy!

has anyone experienced that braid outs hang better than twist outs??

i noticed that my braid out even cornrows look way better than twist outs but my flat twist are fierce

@creole thats too funny... i love when my braidouts come out fierce. So u think that they hang more?

I'm still transitioning (15 months post) but I've noticed that my braid outs tend to lay down better than the twist outs w/ almost shoulder length hair at least...I've actually been able to wear my hair down w/ a braid out instead of always having to pull it back in a puff. Another trick I found from you tube and this site too I think, is to stick a small duck bill clip right under the root of each twist/braid during the drying process. I also wrap around a scarf around my hair at some point too, to encourage the hair to stay down.

Braids stretch hair, twists don't [as much].

I think it may be the length also. I have been natural for 3 months (after transistioning for 2 years) and it took my twist outs a while to lay. I also wonder why my twist out doesn't look like Nikki's, but I am assuming that length plays a part in that also. I just did my first braid out yesterday and OMG, I don't know why I have been doing twist outs all that time. I am now on team braid out.
