Anyone mastered twist/braid out?

Hey Ladies,
I have gotten so much good advice from you all and hope someone can help me here. My twist/braid out don't really come out too hot . I have very fine strands and thin hair so if i try to fluff my hair i become totally frizzy (esp in back). I also have these parts that i can't seem to hide. I've watched so many tutorials and still can't get it right. So any advice would help. I usually do about start with four sections and do about 12 braids/twists. Do i need more braids? less braids? Any positioning points? i love my hair and always end up with a protective style or updo; but I wanna wear my hair down toooooooooooooo ! Thanks ladies

BTW: I've used different products and pretty much have the same results...so don't think that's the problem. But i'll take advice there as well (just trying to curb my PJism) lol

First, after I cowash, I do not part my hair in four sections; I make various puffs throughout my hair (here is a pic):

I then take down a puff and rake through my leave in (water, evoo, KCNT and VO5 conditioner in a spray bottle). I then finger separate for the twists, adding eco custard to each twist (prior to twisting). My avatar is how it looks once complete.

For the twistout, I put shea butter (which is mixed with oils) on my finger tips as I untwist. For the first day, I only pull them apart once. I use a pic or wide tooth comb to hide the parts. I separate more the next day. I retwist at night but just grab hair in chunks (I usually do not reapply any product, but if its a litttle dry I will use shea butter).

And I do not touch my hair!! I used to do that and it would frizz up right away...lol

I also have fine strands...my hair hates twistouts but LOvES braidouts!! I have found that if I separate with jojoba oil, this helps combat frizziness. I also only use moisturizers with water as the first ingredient because everything else is too heavy and I seal with coconut oil. For me, the key to hiding parts is to pick the roots when I see parts. Also, my hair turns out better when I style it dry. I usually do rollersets then braid on day 3.

Maybe you should do more braids/twists. Try to do about 6 per section. That way you will have about 24 twists/braids. I've found the more twists/braids I do, the less seperating and fluffing is needed to hide the parts. And it makes the style look fuller. If the most frizz is in the back do them smaller in the back. Also, some kind of defining cream...i.e...the eco custard.

I didn't master twists until January and I had been about 14 months natural. I find that have better twists out when I do flat twists. Not sure why but I do!

I can never get the front to look the way I want it to! So no, sadly I still haven't mastered twist or braid outs.

I've mastered my own hair, but this may not work since no two heads are the same...

I section my hair according to how I want to wear it. I split my front sections into two big sections. The back I separate vertically instead of horizontally into two sections also (nape and the middle of my head) since for me its easier to cover the parts because my hair will fall over the parts I made if that makes sense.

I first my twist my hair into small twists and I do them tightly. I take them down the next day or in a few days and spray a little water and re-twist except I do my twists much bigger. My curls are defined and elongated. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Oh yeah, and all I use is mango butter for my twists now.

I use this method for twisting the first time:

I'm not a master by any means, but I've found the keys to consistent twistouts that I love are:
1. 16 to 20 twists are the magic numbers for me.
2. Not using a comb (it's easier for me to cover up parts if I never really made any in the first place), I just grab and twist
3. Defining my curls (with something that has hold like a gel, curl cream, or even a conditioner) before I twist.
4. Taking down my twist when they are about 90% dry (because I defined my curls with a holding product before twisting, I can easily separate the twists without inducing alot of frizz).
5. Retwisting (4 to 6 loose twist), sealing with shea butter, and covering with a scarf at night (I use shea butter sparingly once or twice a week).

I also twirl the last inch of my hair around my finger when twisting. Using rollers or flexi rods make my ends look scraggely. Twirling is more natural looking on my hair.

This is a pic of a 2 day old twist out from last week. I used Giovanni Smooth as Silk to define my curls before I twisted (I normally use KCCC). My hair is a combo of fine and medium strands.

Thank you ladies! I took your advice and put more twist in my hair last night (about 24 maybe). It didn't come out perfect, but much fuller. I think with more practice this will get better. All of your hair looks great!

Aimward, wow you have sooooo much hair! I wish i had at least half of that fullness. I have length, but such thin hair!

I have a pattern down for my braid-outs.

I usually do them after Hair's been washed and such.

I do 12 braids. 6 in the back, 2 rows of 3. On that top row the middle braid is braided not from the other direction.

(I flip that section up and towards my forehead then braid back. It will look kinda like a cow lick)

Then I do three on each side of my head. 1 at the temple then two at the top.

(If I do bangs then I split the hair so I can have one braid in the middle of my forehead and one on each side.)

I have found the longer I leave my braids in the fluffier my braid out will be.

Also, on the ends I use a little castor oil and perm rods.

At night I rebraid, but I usually do 3 braids in the front (If you choose bangs) or just two large twists on each side and the 6 in the back as before.

My hair is thin too and doesnt do well with twists ( thick or thin). I found that doing flat twists with conditioner, aloe vera gel, shea butter to seal ends gives me the best look for my hair. My avatar is an old pic but thats how I achieved the look. I also found that SheaMoisture curl enhancing smoothie is great for dry twist out.
