Hmmmmmm.... That would have been a great way to stretch my flat iron out form last week. I'll have to get one for summer. Your hair looks beautiful!

Prayer Request:
So I'm wide awake and it's 2:00 in the morning. I've got a lot on the brain and I'm spending a little quiet time with God trying to figure things out. I'm asking my CN fam to keep me and all teachers nationwide in prayer at this time. I'm sure you've heard all over the news about the huge budget cuts to education and hundreds of thousands of teachers across the nation may be out of jobs.
There's a lot of uncertainty about who will be getting their pink slips, but at the end of the day, I'm trusting and believing that the Lord is moving in that area of my life. I won't go into much detail right now; as of today I'm still employed, but just know that there are people who do not have the kids' interests at heart and they're using their power to intimidate, manipulate, and conspire against certain individuals who do nothing but go above and beyond for their students. It's a sad reality and it's even more disheartening that one of the most respected professions has now been reduced to a mockery and the most scrutinized in the last 20 years. Thank you in advance for your prayers and encouragement as we transition into these changes. I'm not worried or concerned, because I know who takes care of me and keeps me.
Hair:
Tonight I washed my hair and I'm proud to say that my curls are back!!! I was too anxious to get back to my funky hair. When I tell ya'll I missed it tremendously in my short time span of 6 days! It seems the moment I straightened everywhere I looked I saw big, beautiful natural hair. It was all in my face making me miss and appreciate my naps. It didn't help when I looked at a tumbler (hi-i'mcurrentlyobesseswith) the other night and saw all this hair porn! I was like, "OMG!!! Seriously?! I can't do this anymore!" I couldn't even go a full week. It was a change for a little while, but fighting this humidity is not what that is. It's way more maintenance with straight hair, I've discovered. Now will I straighten again...not for a long time. Maybe in a year, but IDK even that's a stretch. It's not me, nor my look anymore. I'm in no rush to do it again at all. I don't like to blend in with the crowd and look like everyone else. Funky hair is my siggy and I'm sticking to it!
I did not apply anymore heat to my hair since I pressed it, but the Carusos really helped stretch the style a few more days. My curls reverted instantly as soon as it met with water. A few curls are a little more stretched, but nothing alarming. No heat damage (thank goodness). Those stretched curls should tighten up in the next few washes or so. I ran my hair under the shower stream first and saturated it. I could feel my hair curling back up quickly. I applied gobs of conditioner and worked it in from root to tip until all my curls came back then rinsed it out. I followed with a shampoo (scalp clean) and then added more condish, detangled, twisted and now I'm doing an overnight conditioning. I'll rinse it out in the morning. Needless to say, I'm relieved that my hair is fine. After all the horror stories I've read about heat damage and non-reversion, I kinda panicked a little, but, thankfully no harm done.
Last thing:
Funny story. I browsed Nappturality the other night and stumbled on this thread about heat styling horror stories. Those of you familiar with NP know they are anti-heat, "burnlaxing", straigtening, etc. So I'm looking at some threads and an OP asked a question about a flat iron. The responses were so harsh and condescending, I was shocked! There were tons of threads on heat styling and every moderator commented with a "we do not condone straigtening..." message to the OP. Fast forward to my fotki, I posted pics of my straight hair in my album. I got an email today that one of my fotki friends removed himself as a friend, and he happened to be an NP poster. I was like, "Chile, boo!" Not that serious and who the heck are you??? What's funny is that he commented on most of the posts in the heat thread on NP and was most condescending to the the poster. I say all that to say that I'm so thankful for my CN fam, because we don't discourage or judge people when it comes to our natural hair. We're a learning community and we support each other no matter what. If we decided to transition, BC, grow long, go short, straighten, all except relax or texturize, we support each other. Thank you ladies for all the kind compliments. Thank you for your honesty too! The vast majority prefers my funky hair and so do I! Anyway, I thought I'd share that story with ya'll.
In the morning, I plan to style my hair with a braidout for stretched out fab hair tomorrow. I'm going to a party and I didn't I thought the straight hair would cramp my style. So big hair it is! I'll post pics of my hair later. TTYL, chicas! Smooches

I'll be praying for you!!
As for NP, although that's "where" I transitioned and I will always be appreciated of what I learned there, I can no longer frequent that site. After Dee updated/upgraded the forum (Oct 2009), I didn't return. Nikki started this forum around that same time, and I have been here ever since. I just can't deal with the natural hair nazi.
I can't wait to see pics of your Funky Hair for the party!!

Thanks, chica! My sentiments exactly. They are super judgemental and I'm extra turned off by NP. Natural hair nazi is the best description for them. This is the best forum I've found and I'll recommend this one over any others for support.
Re: FunkyHairChic: Cute Bun Style AND Mini Product Review!!!
I will keep you in my prayers also! Some people are just too extreme with the anti-heat and anti-straightening. That was one of the reasons I never joined NP. I don't currently straighten my hair and haven't since I was transitioning but I'm not going to say I will never use heat on my hair because I know I will at some point. People really need to get over what others do to their own hair.

Thanks KC! I truly need them now. Isn't it crazy how so far left these people can be? It's almost like a natural hair cult following or something. They can have it. I'm don't plan to straighten again, but I shouldn't be scrutinized if I choose to. Heck, it's my hair! Not that serious.
Re: FunkyHairChic: Cute Bun Style AND Mini Product Review!!!
Sooo...after 6 agonizing days of pressed hair, I just couldn't take it anymore. I missed my naps and I craved them back! My hair reverted nicely. Of course, some strands are little looser, but they'll be back to normal in another wash or two. Here is what my naked hair (no product) looked like after a complete wash and overnight conditioning.
I twisted in it large twists and let it air dry for about 3-4 hours. When my hair was about 80% dry I took down the twists and plaited my hair in large braids. To set it, I just used my Kinky Curly KT leave in and some jojoba oil. No butters or cremes. That's it. I sealed my ends with castor oil.
I decided to take a note for Krazy Coils and curl them with my flexi rods. I used the orange colored ones, but I need to get a smaller size like red or green. I left the rods in for about 2-3 hours with no heat. I took them down for these results!
Here are a few pics from my penthouse party last night. I had a ball! The view from the penthouse floor was panoramic and to die! I felt like money for a few hours and it was a great atmosphere!
I feel like myself now! I have no desire to straighten again so...yea. I'm sticking to my kinks and curls. Not sure what my next hairventure will be, but I need to find one quick before another round of boredom sets in. I'm thinking about spicing my jet black hair with some coppery, bronzey undertones for summer. Thoughts? Ciao, bellas!

Hey Chica! Your hair looked healthy and shiny in its straight state but yes your big hair is YOU!
And umm that dress and shoes....ROCK IT!! I LOVE IT!!
I will def keep you and all the teachers in our prayers. I am currently in school for my degree in education and I am sadden and pissed at state of the education system. I could write a book but I won't use your journal for that. i love that your students look to you for natural hair support and tips. You are a wonderful role model.
Keep doing ya thing girly!

You always look fabulous! Seriously when you go out you do it up and I love it. Big hair, fly dress, makeup and shoes....lookin' good.
And I'll be praying for you. My mom is an educator and she is so annoyed with the whole school system in our area. She retired from a corporate job after 30 years and was all hopeful and excited about teaching. She went back to school and got her degree and has since learned that only a few people have a focus on doing what is best for our children. The way this issue is going is no wonder why the US education system is in distress and the reason why are kids cannot compete on a global scale. I'm praying it all works out. You have the right mindset know. You really have to let go and let God.

I have a lot of friends that are educators...in fact my cousin works as a SPED coordinator there in Arlington. So I will keep all of you in my prayers. However, if they could weed out the few or many that don't care and keep those that are serious about educating our children the system would be so much better. I'm so glad I only have 2 more years to deal with this and then I'm done.
I feel so sorry for those parents that are going to be dealing with the reiments of this for the next 8 to 10 years...you know? Sorry for going on and on about this, but it is a very touch subject for me right now. I will keep you and all of my friends and family in my prayers.
Now on to your royal curliness!! (if that's a word..lol) Girl you felt like money!!?? You were looking like money!! Everything was so on point. I saw your straight hair pictures on FB and it is a nice look, but you know I'm partial to the funky curly you!!
Beautiful!!!

LOL @ "burnlaxing"...is it really that serious? I started my initial Natural research (about 5 years ago...took me that long to finally decide SMH) and I'll admit, that place scared the hell out of me. I discovered CN a few days after I started transitioning and I am SO grateful for the site and all of you beautiful curly girls.
Back to YOU, gorgerous hair...and you are WORKING the entire look. Go 'head, Ms. Penthouse. Umm...location, not the magazine. haha

You looked absolutely GAWGOUS in that dress and the hair was banging! Coral is a beautiful color on you! I went out Saturday night as well and I was telling my hubby that I got more compliments from men while natural and women when I was relaxed! He said when I was relaxed I looked like every other chick and that every natural doesn't take the pride in their hair that I do..he also said he saw lots of naturals that night that truly made him appreciate the amount of time I put into my hair and that he loves that fact that my natural hair is always fly when we go out!! That was a major compliment from him since he was never a fan of my short hair!
On to other things...your fast was not in vain. Pastor C has led us to have GREAT EXPECTATIONS! Like I always tell my husband, "you know who your daddy is!" He will not leave you nor forsake you. So keep your faith and trust that HE knows what's best for you and HE will see you through, no matter who or what tries to interrupt it! Stay strong and make sure the enemy can ALWAYS see the GOD in you! You are in my prayers Chica! God Bless!

Yes, the education system is truly disheartining and disturbing. As teachers we are so unappreciated and it seems that our efforts to educate our students goes overlook and everyone wants to play the blame game. I could write a book, too! I've been in the game for 5 years and NOTHING has improved.
Thanks Dva! I was feeling extra good that night!DvaAuNaturel wrote:You always look fabulous! Seriously when you go out you do it up and I love it. Big hair, fly dress, makeup and shoes....lookin' good.

Thanks you for your prayers. I pray that these legislators (who have no education background, btw) will be willing to invest more in our schools. They don't even care to realize that cutting funds hurts our kids and sets them further behind in this global economy. My heart aches for our kids who will not be prepared to enter college or the workforce due to lack of support from our state governments!
Thanks Sweet! I agree, these other forums are too much! That was one of the first I joined and I've totally nixed it after that nonsense. This education issue is truly sad and disheartening!!! As if we teachers don't already have one of the hardest jobs they turn around and cut funding, too??? I can't even get enough resources, like books and better computers, as is.
Yes, girl! "Burnlaxing" is the first I've heard of the term! I was like, "Seriously?!!" They are like a natural nazi over there! I can't be a part of all that negativity. I'm glad I found CN, too! Interestingly, I found I got double the compliments from women about my pressed hair. But my male friends, were like, "Naw, go one back to your roots. It's more your look and it's sexy!" I was all smiles when a good friend of mine said that! It looks like the men in my circle are truly coming to appreciate natural hair and all it's beauty! I'm glad your hubby loves your hair!!! Nobody wants to be the girl that looks like everybody else! At least, we don't!
Thank you for the encouraging words! I'm believing and trusting exactly what the Lord spoke to my spirit about the next phase in my life. You are absolutely right and I know without a shadow of a doubt, who got my back when it's all said and done! That enemy is busy! But he will never win!
Thanks KC! Coral is my new fave color of the spring! So ready for spring!krazy coils wrote:Gorgeous hair and the Coral color looks beautiful on you!

hEY DARLING,
How did you maintain your braid out? Did you rebraid, pineapple, etc?
I am revisiting this style this weekend.
