Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
I have been finger detangling for almost a year now, and I think the best way to go about it is to do it the day/night before your wash day. That is if you have the time.
I've noticed since it takes me a few hours to get through my entire head, I am more patient if I separate the days I detangle and wash. Otherwise I will easily become overwhelmed and reach for the comb.

Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
I dont use a comb when doing my hair I just use my fingers to style my hair I use a large tooth comb to detangle on wash day & I still feel like my hair is sheading alot I am not sure what to do
Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
@ Sebastain - try not using a comb at all. That's what this challenge is about...finger detangling only. I've been doing it all month (Feb) and I am finally noticing a difference in the amount of hair I lose on wash day.

@Lynnieluve, I was just getting ready to ask you if you had seen a difference. That's great.
So far, I've noticed my ends feel much healthier and are holding on to moisture a lot longer than usual. As for hair loss, I've noticed a small amount of difference but not much. Why??? Since January 1, I have washed/detangled my hair 3 times (major protective styling). And it's currently been almost 3 weeks since I put in my most recent set of twist. So, I actually don't remember how much I'm losing, But I do remember in the past on wash day hair would be everywhere...LITERALLY!!! I would have to sweep the bathroom floor, clean out the shower, the sink, and whipe of the walls to get all of the hair up. Now, it's just a little on the floor, and a lot makes it from my hand to the trash and not much, if any, is in the shower. Also I think my length retention has increased because my recent growth has been amazing.
Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
Ladies I am going to try that today its wash day Nhappy Jackie I have to do the same thing as well I have to sweep & clean to get all the hair up so I will try this today & see what happens
Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
Sebastain, don't be discouraged if you don't notice a difference in the amount of shed hair on the first wash. I didn't see a difference until the 3 or 4 time.

Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
Ladies I wanted to share this story
I wanted to do something different to my hair so I decided to get some cornrows yesterday I went to an lady & she cornrowed my hair but it was so tight around my edges I woke up in the middle of the night to take them out She also put some products on my hair that I dont use any more (pink moisturizer & isoplus hair spray) She also had my head bobbing & weaving from pulling & combing it so rough I didnt say anything but now I need some advice on what to do with my hair
My edges are jacked up but should I just wash it again to get those things out of my hair
I am worried about how much of my hair came out when I was taking the cornrows out as well as when she was combing my hair so rough Any suggestions My head is so tender right now & it is sheading but i am trying to retain length & I just dont know what to do Please help

Washing your hair may be a good idea. Most hair sprays (like oil sheen) contain alcohol. Also, depending on how tight she braided your hair, the tension could've increased your shed rate. Here is video of one of my favorite youtuber's discussing the effects of tight braiding:

Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
At first I couldn't wait for this challenge to end, but I think I am seeing great results. So I will stick with finger combing for an extra month.
Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
I'm going to try to untangle the hair with your fingers the first time I wash. I'm afraid, because I have a lot of time on my hair ...

Re: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMB!!!
My comb and I are slowly getting back together. But only on wash day which is still good for me. In the past, I would comb on wash day, to style and to refresh my styles.
Finger detangling only is SO time consuming and lately, I just haven't had the time to do it lately.
