First attempt at rod set
I used 1/2 inch rods (purple) and Mixed Roots Curl Pudding. I like it! There's a frizzy spot in the back. Think I needed to let it dry longer. Also, I'll try smaller rods next time just to see how that looks.

Re: First attempt at rod set
Wow! I love it! Great job. How did you dry it? I'm going to try to duplicate this style on Monday and I'll post back. Thanks for giving us short-haired gals another option.

Under a dryer for 30 minutes. I was surprised that one section was still damp. maybe that section was too wet when I got under the dryer.

Mixed Roots. Good stuff and inexpensive. You can get it from Amazon.com, 100percenthair.com or curlpudding.com
Re: First attempt at rod set
I think I'll start a new thread about it. Every time I mention it, no one has heard of it.

Cute style.
Are you natural?
I just went to the site http://www.curlpudding.com/ but they don't state the ingredient list
Great music on the site!

DreamMerchant, I'm not sure how long it will last. I'm about to find out, tho. I'll let you know...
Re: First attempt at rod set
ChakaKhanian, yes I'm natural. In the pudding, there are some natural ingredients like coconut oil and green tea and there are also some unnatural ingredients. LOL

I think it looks great!

Re: First attempt at rod set
Day 2 update.
I wore a bonnet to sleep last night. I still have curls on the top and in the front. The sides and back got smashed a little. I spritzed the back with water and olive oil and my natural curls formed. I gelled the sides and pinned it back with hair clips. It looks pretty good. Not a shiny as yesterday.
The set will definitely not last for tomorrow. I may set over night tonight because I won't have time to set and get under the dryer tomorrow. I'll have to use soft rollers so I can sleep. Prolly sponge rollers wrapped with end papers. And I'll prolly use smaller rollers so the curls will be tighter and possibly last longer.
This won't be something I do often cuz I normally don't have that kinda time. Just for special occasions.
Also, when I have longer hair, I'll try flexi rods and sleep in them.

Hi TLog77
Your rod set looks beautiful. Have you considered pincurling the sides without pins and wrapping a scarf lightly to hold them in place? Sort of like flat little bantu knots, twirled on themselves? In the morning you can carefully untwirl them and finger curl them to fluff? I used to do that when my hair was relaxed. I can't sleep in pins or curlers. I love my sleep bonnet, but I can just tolerate a head scarf at night under it, if its not too tight.

Re: First attempt at rod set
TLog77...I've been natural since 10/10...My last perm was 11/09...
I've been getting my hair rod set for the past 2 months. I can keep my rod set for 2 weeks. My stylist uses DE HCO and Master piece mixed to roll my hair. I generally mositurize it with JC Nourish and Shine after a few days by rubbing it along each curl. Then I'll apply castor oil as needed for my dry scalp. I sleep in a bonnet each night. I think the secret to maintaining this style is getting it completely dry and not seperating the curls too much. Also I won't put any water or water based products on it.
