Good Pre-Poo Treatments?

What are some good pre-shampoo recipes? Is pre-poo necessary and what are the benefits of pre-poo?

Some women love to use coconut oil for a pre poo because coconut oil has been proven to be able to penetrate the hair shaft and seal. You can experiment making a mixture yourself with pure coconut oil and other ingredients.

Some of the links explain why people pre-poo. One of the reasons being that shampoo is a harsh product and people want to protect their hair and not suffer a ton of damage from shampooing. Whether it's necessary is up to the individual, I guess it's worth a try to see if you really like it. HTH.

Is pre-poo necessary
I would not say it is necessary, but I have found it beneficial. Especially now that I am not using heat. Years ago I used the VO5 hot oil or olive oil for a pre shampoo treatment and they both left my hair softer than if I shampooed w/o the treatment.
I use Burt's Bees Avocado Pre Shampoo Treatment on wet hair approximately twice a month. The other weeks I use Aubrey Organics conditioners as DCs on dry hair.

I don't know if any of the articles/videos in the links that Treece provided mention this but I have read blogs in which the authors recommend that you blend/process bananas or avocados before applying to your hair to avoid problems rinsing the treatments out of your hair. Some people use banana baby food.

Mahogany, Falcon Tress mentioned bananas. I personally use bananas sometimes, particularly when I am doing some type of treatment that has the potential to be drying. Good to hear it might aid in removing the txt. I always use the baby banana food though because I have heard stories of people having to pick banana pieces out of their hair and I did not want to be one of those people!

I'm transitioning so my hair is actually dryer and prone to dryness so i have to be extra careful i pre poo with Extra virgin olive oil , or coconut oil the night before i shampoo , i also add oil to my shampoo if i don't have time to shampoo

I prepoo with Coconut Oil on for a couple of hours and I've done it overnight before. My hair has been extremely soft once I've finished shampooing it; I do use a sulfate shampoo (which tends to be stripping). I have ones that are sulfate free as well but haven't found them to detangle while I'm shampooing. Anyway I love the softness and it helps with protecting my strands since I do use the sulfate shampoo to I guess you can say lessen the stripping I would've had.

It makes my hair very soft and moist. The product also helped with detangling( I had a problem last year) and shine. I like the fact that it is thick enough that it ends up on my hair and not on my clothes or in the sink. It is sticky.

what are the benefits of pre-poo?
I finally remembered where I saw the rationale for applying deep conditioner on dry hair. It was in the FAQ section of the Aubrey Organics website.

Q: Do you make any deep-conditioning treatments?

Simply apply the conditioner to DRY hair, distributing from scalp to ends, leave it on for 15 minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual. Emollients dissolve buildup of styling aids on dry hair better than on wet hair; applying treatments to dry hair also helps the nutrients to penetrate better.
