Edges! Help grow mine back...pleease
Hey Curly Girls-
Throughout my life I've worn braids and extensions and my edges have payed for it. Although they have grown drastically in the last 7 months through my transition from relaxed hair and I just recently BC'd (yayy me! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ), I wanted a few tips on how to grow them faster and what products I should use.
Thank you!

Castor oil and wild hair growth oil work wonders. However, Wild growth oil apparently has a terrible smell, so you might want to mix it with some sweet smelling oils. Btw, congrats on the BC.

Thanks vovowiththafro! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Luckily I own both of those products! I'm going to start that regimine tonight. Did you try both personally? About how long did it take for you to see growth?

Castor oil or the Jamaican Black Castor Oil are really good for growing back the edges.
Re: Edges! Help grow mine back...pleease
Congrats on your BC and I agree that castor oil works great for edges!

Question: How does castor oil smell? Although my SO loves my curls and coils, I don't want to drive him away with stinky hair at night!
I've already nixed the wild growth because it is just too much, but have never tried the castor oil.

I use it to seal sometimes and it doesnt really have a scent. The consistincy is thick like molasis, which is why i dont use it to seal after wash and go's everyday

I used castor oil when I was younger and I had alot of growth but unfortunately I stopped using it for some reason. I actually have never used wild growth oil but I want to because I have used so much. I think it really depends, but you should probably see growth after a couple of weeks or a month or so.

Regular castor oil does not have a smell. The jamaican black castor oil does have a smokey smell.

Re: Edges! Help grow mine back...pleease
Bought some castor oil yesterday and used it in my DC. I love the smell, actually! I used the clear and not the JCBO.
Can I use it on my edges straight, or should I dilute with coconut or some other oil?

I have the clear castor oil also. I put it straight on my edges and massage for about 5 mins before bed. I can definately see growth...slowly but surely.

Hi Netta! I think you and I are the only fifty-somethings on this site or at least the only ones that will admit it, lol. Actually, being fifty-on is so amazing to me because it is totally different than what I imagined. I am a much younger fifty than my mom was, although I'm not hating because she lived to be 94! I really thought I would have to wear short hair because I was told long hair on older women makes them look old; I thought I would always have to wear sleeves because "older women should not show their arms" at least not in public. All kinds of things that are turning out to not be true.
I still love learning new stuff and these "young'uns" here on CN have taught me so much about my hair.
Just wanted to say hi.
Oh BTW your skin absolutely glows in your avatar.

I have the same problem. Like you I have worn braids often with no problem, but unlike you ONE braider decided to put a lot of hair on my edges unbeknownst to me. So yes my edges are GONE.
I asked a friend and she said really any oil works to grow the edges. Just as long as you keep them moisturized they should grow back. Just have patience. the edges and the nape grow the slowest

I experienced the same problem because of braids when I was younger. Now that I'm natural I am more proactive with temple massages to stimulate the hair in that area. I tried JBCO and did not like the intense smell and prefer to use the regular, laxative version.

Re: Edges! Help grow mine back...pleease
@Rimmie & @Hamptonsfnst, thanks for your insight. I've been wearing a protective style of gel twists since its so cold in DC and I have noticed some growth on my temples. I think it is because I'm just leaving them alone. I must admit I've been lazy with the castor oil massages, but I plan to continue this week. I've also started taking a hair vitamin. We'll see how that works. I think I may want to try JBCO because I've heard so many things about it.
@Hamptonsfnst you wouldn't happen to still have yours would you? I'd love to do a swap!

What about edges that grow and fall out?
I henna and notice little white roots on short temple hairs; so, it's growing but it's breaking just as fast
Suggestions?
