How to transition with bald edges

I am 19 years old and my hair has always been thin around my edges. In 2009 I transitioned for one year but i wore weave the whole time i had so much new growth but not so much in the bald areas. In 2010 i gave up and permed my hair and i felt bad afterwards because i knew i really want to be natural, now i am transitioning again but i still wear waeves to not show my hair. I realy need help with styles i can do to cover my bald spots while tryin to grow my hair. Because i reallly want to stop wearing weaves. Also some tips to get my hair to grow.
