Conditioners for Henna Gloss

I'm planning on doing a henna gloss later this month. I'm looking for suggestions on a good conditioner to use as I don't really purchase wash out conditioners. Is it the thicker the better for a henna gloss?

While I'm at it, I'll also take suggestions on a cheap conditioner I can use to wash the henna out. I don't think my hair is crazy about VO5 or Suave conditioners. I was thinking about HE Hello Hydration, but some loyal consumers seem a bit put off by the recent formula change.

I use Sally's GVP Conditiong Balm because it doesn't have cones for the gloss. To rinse I use Trader Joe's TTT ($3.99) or Yes To Tomatoes ($2.99 @ Ross)
