Hair Color - Still Natural? Empty Hair Color - Still Natural?

Post by ThatGirl! 1st December 2010, 3:01 pm

I am almost 6 months into my transition and have quite a few gray hairs. I was wondering are there any natural hair coloring products that I can use to cover my gray BESIDES Henna? And if I was to use a product such as Garnier Nutrisse or Bigen would I still be considered natural. In my mind I feel like if you use hair dye, (with the exception of Henna and maybe some other products that I hope someone can tell me about) which is a chemical then you are not longer natural. What is everyone else's take on this. And I ask again are there any other natural hair coloring products that I can use to cover gray BESIDES Henna?

Before i got the Henna part if your question I was thinking, sure there's henna!!! LOL

But I believe that you are still considered natural if you dye your hair with store dyes. I have had my hair colored w/dye and never considered myself not natural because of it.

Sorry I can't help with the other part though. henna is the only thing I know of other than the store bought dyes.

This is a great question!

Never thought of hair color being 'a process that would remove the natural label' (so to speak).

Awaiting responses...

My take:

Do whatever you need to do to be happy with your hair.
If you don't like the gray, and you don't want to henna/indigo/hendigo,
then you either must use regular hair coloring
or embrace your grays.

I am not ready to embrace grays yet (maybe when I turn 50 in a few years),
so I will do some sort of color, whether natural or box.

The answer to this always seem to varies but mine is no chemicals are chemicals if your hair appears a different way from what comes out your head it is not you "natural hair". This is not a bad thing though.

Aubrey Organics makes a product.

Water (H20) is a chemical. So , I guess we all got corrupted the first time our hair was washed when we were infants and we corrupt our new growth every wash day :-)

Do you. If covering your gray is important to you then find the right product and go for it. You are That Girl! Way too powerful to be worried about what label others will apply to YOUR hair.
People make assumptions about hair all the time. When I did have a relaxer it made my hair lighter and people swore I had dyed it and more than once someone palmed my head to give me the weave track check.

To me if it still looks the same, and moves the same and you can do the same thing with it then it's basically the same just somewhat tweaked is all; like how someone can wear coloured contacts but they'll still have bad eyesight.

IMO, yes, you are still natural if you color your hair.
