Hey, I did this to my daughter's hair last week to keep from going over it with the flat iron twice. I though I was being creative, but I guess it's like what Solomon said, "There's nothing new under the sun."-LOL Anywho, it works very well, but I doubt that I could ever do this to myself.

Total side note: The model towards the end was looking at the stylist like "If you go over that SAME section ONE more time, I'ma take that flat iron and beat you with it!" LOL

Other than that, very informative! Good to know my technique is similiar!

I thought that too! He kept flat ironing that same section over and over to illustrate his point..and that iron was smoking! she held herself pretty well, I would have snatched my hair away from him so fast!

He makes it look super easy!!! I tried to do that and it definitely takes some practice especially since when I was relaxed that is not the way I was accustomed to flat ironing my hair, but it definitely helps when doing it now as fully natural...

that iron was smoking

Key takeaway for me. I will just have to live vicariously thru the flat-iron experiences of others for a season.

The glossing serum he referred to was the heat protectant.

Did anybody else notice round about 45 seconds in, she pulled a face as he tried to section her hair. I have pulled that face way too many time dealing with hair stylists who are used to permed hair.

I felt her pain!

Lynn, thanks! I will share this technique with my daughter- she flat irons her natural. I've never seen her use this technique.

What are the best flat iron brands (for natural hair)? I was looking at the Chi brand on Ulta site but there isn't any with adjustable temperatures.

I guess I'm not seeing this clear enough. Is the comb coming up from the underside of the hair or is it going through the hair as in normal combing from above or what?

Confused,

ladies if you go to walmart or sally's there is a comb piece....where you can actually use the comb and flat iron. It allows the hair to stay in place. I think I paid $6.00 for mines and I had it for 3 years. Here is a pic

Doesn't blow drying soaking wet hair cause air bubbles in the hair shaft? But anyway, I've seen the comb first method before, and it looks like a great tip for flat ironing. If I still used my old flat iron (it's dead now) I would definitely give it a try.

Here's a link to the air bubble issue (not sure if you ladies have heard of it before):

Yes it does cause bubble hair, that's why it said blow dry on DAMP hair. [Reading is fundamental!!!]
