I'm fairly new to this community and this transitioning
process. I plan to post pics and my avatar in the coming weeks. I have gained
so much knowledge from this site and the posts; the overwhelming amount of
information, advice and tips has made my transitioning experience so much easier.
When I first started on this journey I thought my hair was going to be like the
man from the movie “Roots” and I was going to break combs everyday; but to my
surprise it was the total opposite. When you’re equipped with the right
information and products the new growth can be a beautiful thing. I have about
2 inches of new growth and it is wavy and curly I was shocked to see my new
growth is maturing so wonderfully. I've always had long thick hair but I never
knew my natural hair was wavy and curly. I guess it helps that I'm also
treating my hair better. Before transitioning I would get my hair flat ironed
every 2 weeks and I only allowed my beautician to spray a little amount of
sheen on my hair and that was the only product I had on my hair for the two
weeks until I went back to the salon and I wrapped my hair for those 2 weeks
never applying any type of products to my hair..OMG!, right I had no clue how
unhealthy I was making my hair and to top that off I never combed my new
growth, didn't realize I was letting it lock up, my new growth was not touched
until my head hit the shampoo bowl at the salon. Now I treat my hair the way I
treat my body. I eat healthy, only drink water and work-out all the time so I'm
following a similar regime for my hair but its all hair related maintenance I
moisturize daily and nightly, co-wash once a week, seal my ends, deep
treatments once or twice a month and trim every 6-8 weeks and I no longer use
the blow dryer or flat iron on my hair except for blow outs for my trims. I’m
looking forward to making transitioning buddies so we can keep each other
motivated and share stories. Good luck transitioners on your hair journey!
