Do not slam me for this...there is always a story and I'll tell mine, but I need some advise on this side of the journey Smile

Relaxed hair all adult life (now 39); NEVER have been successful with my own hair, if the hair dresser didn't do it (stylist) then, the next day, do-done; first child at 32, hair fell out, after hair pieces and wigs, decided to commit and chopped it off-LOVED IT; but pressure set in "how you gonna get a man with a TWA; back to relaxing, back to braids so it would "grow"; got a man, pregnant again at 38; braids because I didn't want to fool with my hair; ended up "natural" again after no relaxing; beau ok with natural hair, but suggested that I get a curl because it was looking a hot mess (dry, no shape, etc.-just came out of pregnancy) and I'm in grad school, two kids, he knew I didn't have a knack or the funds to get it done weekly; so I got a curl, first one in my life...actually liked it; it doesn't have that SoulGlo look, more dry curl, plus I worked with Cartwright (Caucasians) so they didn't care what my hair looked like, nor that I had a "curl" so I was ok with it all...well, I needed a new curl 6 weeks ago, but I kind of like this "old curl" look; roots are back to natural and the ends are kind of curly, kind of-really-kind of...but I'm not partial, and (most importantly), the curl has made my hair grow (due to the constant moisturizing). So I'm deciding on whether I want to get one more curl to take me to the end of the year, let it grow out some more and then go natural again.

My sign in name is trugrit, because when I describe my hair that is what it is. I don't have that in-between hair, it is 100% tight and kinky and I am ok with that, but I wouldn't mind that Jill Scott look, but I want to be able to comb through it, have healthy long natural hair, that I can pop into a pony tail, straighten with a hot comb if I want...so what is my goal...long, natural, healthy, moisture rich hair. Looking for product suggestions for DRY, HARD, KINKY hair...thanks ladies, I just joined, i'll keep reading, but any direct help would be greatly appreciated...and by the way, me and that guy-not together any more...out of all of this and after reading the little that I have read so far, I am going to do with my hair, what I want to...love me natural or not at all [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You should try molasses. My hair hated aloe vera (juice and gel), glycerin, honey, and castor oil, but molasses is another humectant (but also has strengthening properties and is said to slow down breakage) and it seems to do pretty fine with that. You could mix it with some oils, honey, conditioner, apple cider vinegar, and/or mayonnaise to make a homemade, deep conditioning treatment. Or you could just add a bit of molasses to water and make a spritz to moisturize your hair daily before you seal; this is how I plan to use it.

Pure grapeseed oil is also good. My hair also hated coconut oil, olive oil, and castor and I just could use butters as sealants (my hair always absorbs them too quickly), but grapeseed oil seems to be of the right consistency so that it isn't too light (so my hair won't absorb it too quickly) or too heavy (so I'm not left with greasy hair) and I can actually seal with it.

Since every head of hair is different, I'll tell you that I'm completely natural and I have fine, probably porous, mostly 4a (with a tiny splash of 4b) hair. HTH.
