My Hair Refuses To Be Worn Down and Out Empty My Hair Refuses To Be Worn Down and Out

Post by TriniCherryPrincess 15th June 2010, 1:36 am

I've tried different things and the few products I have...can't wear my hair out. It looks great in a ponytail style but that's about it. Today I thought I had it; I wore it with a headband down and out. By the end of the day though my hair had fanned out and up around me. It wasn't dry or tangled or anything- it just seems to do that. Any suggestions?

The key for me is applying my products to wet hair. I use a leave in and another moisturizer cause my hair tends to get big easily. The thicker and richer the product the better.

Yes, I've applied product when my hair was wet. It looks nice at the time then as it dries it gets bigger and bigger. Do you think I'm just not using enough product or that it's not thick enough?

It may just be your hair texture. The only way I can were my hair "down" is if it is pretty much straight prior to styling. If not then it poofs up all over - lots and lots of volume (like fanned out).
I like big hair so it doesn't bother me at all. You may want to try stretching your hair.

Yeah I guess so. It's like my hair wants to rise and look like an afro but at the same time it drops...it's a living contradiction! Haha.
And IMO my hair is pretty stretched out thanks to the twist-outs I've been doing.

A gel or mousse could help with "rise." It could be that your products are not moisturizing enough. What do you use?

Hmmm, do you know of any natural-hair-friendly mousse I can try? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I have no regimen or staple products yet but I have been experimenting with:
-ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner (to DC)
-ORS Olive Moisturizing Hair Lotion
-Hawaiian Silky Miracle Worker 14-n-1
-Aussie Moist (Co-wash, sometimes leave-in)
-Cantu Conditioning Cream Shea Butter

This week: Sunday I co-washed with Aussie Moist and set twist-outs with the Cantu. Sunday night and last night I re-twisted the with ORS Olive Hair Lotion and sealed with EVOO. It looks great for the first half of the day but then.... *shrug*

I purchased the Tresemme Naturals (in black can). I have not used it yet.

Based on what you have, I would suggest trying to layer the following. Aussie Moist then oil then Cantu. I would advise you adding a little of each in your hand and rub to see if you get any white balls.

Also, when was the last time you clarified?

Ok thanks, I'll try that today and see how it works.
I clarified and did a protein treatment (ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor) last Thursday. I planned to clarify, do another protein treatment (10min) then deep condition (1hr) this Saturday.

Thanks Chrs! It worked- my hair has completely air-dried and the curls are defined and hanging.

Well first I co-washed with Aussie Moist. I didn't wash all of it out after detangling. Then I raked EVOO through my hair. Then I parted my hair into about 10 sections to do twists for a twist-out. Before twisting I raked the Cantu through. After I twisted all my hair I put it back into a low bun and tied my hair with a silk scarf. I didn't take it down until the next day.

I've been experimenting with taking pictures to post but I feel like my camera doesn't do any justice to the hair results. Here's one I took yesterday though (please excuse the misplaced bra strap [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]) :

P.S. I love your new avatar picture!
