AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 Empty 2 strand twist

Post by vonda4b 16th December 2009, 1:42 am

Just thought I would post some pics of my daughter's two strand twists I did very late Saturday night. I co-washed her hair for the first time and then used "Curls Curly Q's whipped cream. I did it while her hair was dry then sealed it with AfrikanLatina's whipped shea butter. AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 Family10AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 Family11

i didn't finish this child's head until about 2:20am Sunday Morning. I got started late so that's why she looks a liiiiitle sleepy. AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 Sleep Oh. and this style has really grown her hair over the past 8 months.

They look good sis. They look "juicy" as I like to say lol. Poor baby...I know she was tired. She's got that pretty smile on though despite being up til 2 in the morning. What do you do to keep her still and entertained while you do her hair?

I modified it because I didn't have any peppermint oil. So instead of that I used a small glob of AO HSR and no honey. I also put 1 tsp job oil in the mix.

I would love to try alot of different mixes and ultimately I too will like to be a mixtress of my own stuff. I want to make things that can be used on the whole body from head to toe. And even be safe and pure enough to use on children as well. Because I have noticed J & J along with the other baby manufacturers out there, have alot of junk in their products.

Cool. I need to reup on some of my essential oils myself. I bet the AO HSR made it smell nice. You are so right J&J has a lot of crap in their products. I got so much of that stuff at my babyshower and took it ALL back. It was a nice thought but I would not be using that stuff on my son.

Well she's gotten used to me doing her hair. I usually just make sure she is sitting on a big comfy pillow and she will watch a movie while I twist her hair. Her 3rd day hair still looks really good, not as fuzzy as it usually does after day 1. I think there's really something to that co-washing.

The cowashing isn't stripping her hair of the natural oils that her hair produces like shampoo can. Were you using a SLS free shampoo on her hair? Do you deep condition her hair at all?Cowashing is definitely going to help retain moisture and moisturized hair tends to break less, thus growing longer. Smile

I was looking around...WHERE IS YOUR BUTTERS N BARS THREAD sistagirl? lol You should be in on this challenge. Your hair in your avatar looks lovely.

I agree. Essential oils just add a special something to it. I'd like to avoid using any commercial products in my mixes one day. That means I'm going to have to go through some trial and error trying to make a conditioner, a shampoo(for the rare occasions that do shampoo), moisturizer, sealant, spritz, etc.

Yes, I am going to have to invest in some essential oils. Where do you get yours from?
I want to get to the point of not using commercial products also. But I am no where close to that point yet....lol

In my Whole Foods they are on the end cap near the Vitamins. They are lined up in a stair step like case if I remember correctly.

Today is going to be hair day. Hubbys getting off early which means I get to leave baby with him and get some mommy time. AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 617583 That will be short lived though because I'm probably going to end up retwisting his locs and washing babys hair. Oh gosh....My Sunday evening was spent retwisting my Hubby's hair. Which left less time for me. And I didn't even finish. I did the perimeter and I need to finish the back this week. He has over an inch of new growth....I've been slacking

Today it's starting to look a little old. The ends are no longer curled but look straight. So looks like I need to redo them by Friday.

Hello! I've been stalking your board for some time and I have to comment. Thanks for sharing your story on postpartum shedding. I too had tons of shedding with my first son 2 years ago. None of my friends had it, so I had no one to turn too and lost a lot of hair around my edges. So much so, I ended up bc again last year to try and even up the growth of my edges ( have been natural since 2005, so it hurt to cut the length, but I couldn't deal with the different lengths going on ). They have grown back (YAY!), so definitely be encouraged that it get's better.

I am expecting our 2nd son in the next 4-6 weeks and recently ordered Cassia & Amla to see if it will make a difference this go round with the shedding. I'm so excited to try them and also your shea mix (the pj in me has been reawakened since I found CN site a few weeks back AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 7 Icon_biggrin ).

Take Care!

Your whipped shea butter mix sounds awesome by the way. I was wondering how long does it last for? Do you have to make some every week/month? Thanks! I might try it out when I get home.

You're very welcome. When I was going through the shedding it felt like I was all alone. I'm sitting here reading all these stories and these ladies have full heads of hair and I'm practically bald around the edges. Oh it sucked lol But I got through it. I'm not 100% recovered but I've made great progress. I almost BC'd but someone told me to wait it out and see what happens. I'm glad I did.

CONGRATS on expecting your 2nd son...and so soon at that. He'll be here in no time. I'm definitely going to keep up my henna routine when I get pregnant again. Let me know how you like the shea mix when you get around to trying it out. Smile

Thank you love! Definitely let me know how you like the whipped shea butter mix when you try it. Tweek it to suit your hairs needs. I'll probably leave the honey out of the next batch to see how it works out for me. I can't remember when I made the first batch but I know its been over a month and I'm still on the first 7 oz jar. I have another 7oz jar in the fridge so its definitely going to last for a while.

Sooooooooooo....I decided to give the HH Long Term Relationship one last try last night and I think its a wrap. I cowashed with it and it didn't really do much for me. I'll be putting that under the sink for future experimentation. Its going to be mixed with some other things later on. I'm currently deep conditioning my hair from last nights cowash. I slept with my hair baggied and will rinse it out at some point today. I've been cleaning house so hopefully the body heat is going to help me get some soft and smooth results. Smile
