Natural lightener = Lemon Juice?
I want to have burgandy hi-lights but my hair is too dark for rinses and i don't want to use peroxide on my 8/9 month transition hair. I read that Lemon Juice would do the trick but i'm thinking that info wasn't geared towards my hair type/color. Any suggestions?

I don't know but I am very interested to read the comments.
My hair is already highlighted but they are 6 months old now. I would like to find a natural way to lighten it.

Lemon Juice can be kind of acidic. It has a Ph of 2.3. You do not want to throw your hair out of wack. I use it to clean with and whiten grout and tile. I do not think I want to try it on my hair. Try a strand test first. I would hate for you to dry out your pretty hair.

yeah, u need to be careful with using lemon and grapefruit juices in hair, because of their high acidic levels...

I used to use it when I was 13/14 to lighten my hair and it worked. Again PH and moisture is the key! It won't make your hair burgundy but it will become light brown and eventually blond if you keep at it.

Thanks crvn4mr -- the plan is to lighten and then use a burg rinse. I'm still on the fence on this one. I was on yt and noticed where several ppl have dyed dark hair w/ koolaid and the color was noticable without lightening it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I had a friend in highschool who always dyed her hair with koolaid and it was a burgundy color. So I know it works but I don't remember what koolaid flavor she used.

Maybe a mixture of grape and cherry for a burgundy color. Or that Smurf blue color and red.

i love this forum!! only here can we reasonably talk about kool aid in the hair.
i was thinking about adding honey to conditioner, so i researched a lot about honey. i read that when you add water to it, if you leave it on hair at least 30 min, it makes hair lighter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey#Hydrogen_peroxide
the link above talks about how diluted honey releases small amounts of hydrogen peroxide; i couldn't understand it all.
i didn't try honey after i read that, because i was afraid hydrogen peroxide would mess up my hair, even if it came from the honey!!
was your relaxed hair this dark brown? it seems my relaxed hari was a mix of browns with specks of red; i loved the color. now the natural hair growing in is a very very dark brown, one color. i don't know what made the relaxed hair so varied; was it years of exposure to sunlight , or was it relaxer? I am super curious and i hope it was the sun!! That would mean that my natural hair will soon be that way too.
i've considered doing something to my natural hair to make it the color i want, but i haven't stumbled on anything that is totally simple and harmless. so i plan to learn to like this color !

Re: Natural lightener = Lemon Juice?
Hmm I tried the lemon juice once in high school and didn't tell my mom. I put a lot of lemon juice and olive oil in my hair and spent to rest of the day in the sun. One day I was standing in the sun and my hair looked extremely light brown. Needless to say she started freaking out, lol. I originally had vey bark brown hair. It works but I haven't done it again.
