Hi Rose I've been fully natural for eight months now and I'd love to be your big sis if you'd like. Let me know what questions and concerns you have.

Could you tell me your regimen and what products you are using. How often do you co-wash your hair?

Post by CrissyQ 14th May 2010, 1:04 pm

ok here is my routine, I am very simple. Please let me know if I should be doing more or if this is ok.

I wash like once a month with sufate free shamppo. (burt bees)
I co-wash when needed. (HEHH, HETT YTC)
I use a leave in after i cowash ( HEHH, HETT YTC)
I do not deep condition (I know slap my hand)
I use oils (evoo, coconut oil)

I have some new products Aubreys white camille
and I am waiting on my Qhemets burdock butter cream (I dont have a clue on what to do with that).

And thats that!

Your routine looks good so far. When you have a twa you want to keep it simple. I would advise you to deep condition at least once a week. Since you recently did your BC you may experience a problem with dry hair. When I first did my BC my hair was dry as a desert and the deep conditioning helped with that.

I remember you mentioned that you didn't like the smell of the White Camellia. I would suggest using it as a dc instead of a leave-in and using a shower cap if you don't have a hair dryer you can always wrap a towel around your head and use your body heat.

Your conditioners and oils sound go also. With the Qhemet's Burdock butter cream you can use this as a leave-in moisturizer. When I had a twa I would sometimes use this by itself as a leave-in or use it under a gel.

When you mentioned your hair was dry did you mean it feels dry or looks dry? With natural hair your hair isn't going to shine the same way it would with relaxed hair. It will have a sheen to it but its not going to be shiny. I always use some type of oil or butter to keep my hair from looking dull. Ok that was a lot (lol).

Post by CrissyQ 14th May 2010, 2:33 pm

i am going to try and deep condition more, I know I need too. Maybe I will do it tonight. Should I add anything to it or just use it alone?

I see you used gel? what kind did you use? I am goin to try this custard (eco gel, evoo, cator oil and avacado) to see how my hair response.

My hair looks and fell dry, I guess it is that TWA phase.

I sometimes add oil to my deep conditioners. You can add either the Olive oil or coconut oil. I think once you start to deep condition more it won't feel as dry.

I try not to use too much gel now. But when I first did my BC I used the Olive Ecostyler and Fantasia IC. I've seen the recipe for that custard and it sounds good.

When I used the Ecostyler and the fantasia I always used a heavy/creamy leave-in and I mixed it with oil and applied it to my hair then I would apply the gel. For example I would use either Shea Moisture Leave-in or the Burdock root butter cream and mix it with castor oil in my hand then apply it to my hair. The oil helps to take out some of the crunch so that you don't have that hard crunchy feeling with the gel.

How often are you using gel and have you ever tried baggying your hair at night?

i dont use gel, i have tried it a couple of times but I did not like the way it made my hair feel. hopefully the custard will eliminate the crunch but still give me the definition.

You will be trying your Yes To cucumbers this weekend right? Youare going to love it!

I can't wait to try it out! Well that's good that you're not using gel now. I used it almost everyday at first but I stopped because I felt like it was drying my hair out.

I forgot to mention also that you can use the coconut oil to add shine to your hair. Just rub a little on hair to give it a little shine.

I have used the White Camellia and the Honey Suckle Rose conditioners. I never tried either as a leave-in but I saw that you mentioned you used it as a leave-in earlier. I may have to try it this way since it is so thick.

I do like Aubrey Organics so far. I didn't like the Honey Suckle Rose at first when I tried it as a deep conditioner. I liked it better as a rinse out because it helped with detangling. So far the White Camellia is my favorite so I will probably try this one as a leave-in soon.

You may have found a good combo [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I never tried s-curl but I have tried the care free curl instant activator. I've only used mine a couple of times but when I did my hair felt soft and really moisturized. I think they're good and they don't cost a lot of money either!

Yes I use the Burdock Root Butter cream for twists and when I plait my hair for a braidout. You should try some twists to see how you like them. I think I responded in your thread also but the next time you co-wash, either use a leave-in or don't use one. With the BRBC its kind of thick you don't really have to use one. Play around with it both ways and decide whether or not you prefer to use a leave-in. I apply it to my hair before I twist or plait and then seal with it and add just a little oil to my ends.

I've used glycerin in a spritz with water and aloe vera. I did this when I was still transitioning so this summer will be my first time using it fully natural to see if my hair likes it also.

Most people use it in some type of spritz. Its a humectant so its supposed to help keep your hair moisturized in humid temperatures. Also if you have products with glycerin in the first five ingredients its good to use this time of the year. If you get some make sure you get the vegetable glycerin.
