Tree Braids
I know this is a longshot, but I am looking for someone to do tree braids for me as a protective style. I have called all the African hair braiding places I know and none of them ever even heard of that. I even described it in case they just call it something else. They were baffled [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and said "Oh no, we don dooo dat." Any curlies living on Long Island in NY know of any tree braiders? Thanks! Re: Tree Braids
I'm actually meeting with someone tomorrow night for a consultation in. I think some places call it interlocking braids/weaves. I'm pretty sure some of the African salons do this type of braiding. There is also another stylist in the city that specializes in tree braiding, she is kinda pricey though. Not sure what price range you are looking for.
If you want either number or me to get back to you tomorrow after my consultation, let me know.

Princess-the place you are meeting is that on Long Island? I can only go if it is Long Island. The city is too far away. I have 2 small kids and babysitting is hard. Let me know how your consult goes. Thanks.

Re: Tree Braids
Jorie, Oh no sorry she is also in the city. I just did a google search and these salons came up, don't know if you called them or not. Try asking for interlocking braids, I know some people use the term crochet braids interchangeably, but I think the technique (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) is different when it comes to adding the hair.

Also Essence magazine has a salon listing, you can try going through these, hopefully there is one close by.

Since it's hard for you to get a babysitter, if you are a DIYer and can braid your own hair, you may want to consider trying the crochet braids yourself. There are a few good links/videos that may help.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Re: Tree Braids
ooooh, thanks Princess. I even emailed one of the salons on the Essence list. I had no idea there were so many. I am bound to find one now using both those links. Thank you, thank you! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I never knew about this style but I'm definitely going to try it out some day! It's a great alternative for open braids which I can't do with my 4b hair...!

Re: Tree Braids
Hey Jorie!
I was wondering if you ever got your tree braids done by the girl you said you sent the e-mail to? And if so do you have any pictures?? I'm looking to get tree braids done but I know they're expensive and I'm a student and on a budget so if I'm spending that much money I want to make sure it's worth it! I know I'm late on this post but I did a search in the forum and this post was the only one that popped and actually applied to what I was searching for! lol
