Re: Meet talljournalist
I just received my Curly Girl in the mail today! It was pretty interesting, but I felt like I had already learned everything in the book lol.
I've heard great reviews about "Grow It" by Chicoro though. But I hear you on the free .99. I paid enough money for the reader thing I don't want to pay for books too lol

Today's inspiration
So my flat twist out hasn't been fully drying these past few days. I guess I'm co-washing and twisting too late at night and need to begin earlier. I've even tried doing it on day-old dry hair, but my strands don't like to be manipulated dry. This morning I stumbled upon Chiselle Couture's YouTube channel and found the motivation to keep trying. Enjoy...

Meanwhile I kept telling myself: "I will not flat iron. I will not flat iron. I will not flat iron."

product review & twist challange
After I stopped sulking about my hair yesterday, I did some retail therapy. First I restocked my henna supply from Butters-n-Bars and added some sweet almond oil and extra virgin coconut oil to the cart too. Then I went to Walgreen's to find conditioners on sale and stumbled upon a luring "new product" sticker pointing to Bioinfusion Olive Oil Deep Conditioning Treatment.
Of course I indulged. So I went home I broke my usual cycle of deep conditioning on the weekends so that I could have clean & nourished hair to begin bholmes87's twist challenge.
I'm not sure why Bioinfusion calls its DC olive oil because coconut oil tops the ingredients list along with Behentrimonium Methoulate and Dimethicone which my strands love. (I've been trying to come up with a name for my hair since I keep calling it strands. Maybe Cleopatra? or Eden? Suggestions are welcome, but I digress.) When ever I'm trying a new product I click over to Tightlycurly.com's ingredients dictionary and research so I know what I'm getting my nameless strands into. I'm glad BOODCT is a mix of many essential oils.
After BOODCT passed the ingredients test, I co-washed with the last drops of my Herbal Essence Hello Hydration. While in the shower, I lathered on BOODCT and donned a shower cap for an hour or so - however long it took me to bake salmon, snap & steam peas and roast potatoes for dinner. Then I treked back upstairs and grabbed my shower comb to detangle. It took less than a dozen strokes to detail my entire head! No lie! This DC has major slip! It's the consistency of gel and really defined my curls. After rinsing, my strands were light and soft. Unfortuately, BOODCT doesn't have an amazing scent. It's just smells clean and fresh, and I prefer when-the-wind-blows-I-something-smells-yummy pizazz. I will be adding this to my list of deep conditioners since it's easy to find at drug stores and reasonably priced at $5.99 for 12 oz. Now I'm interested to see what else the Bioinfusion line has to offer.
Here are morning after pics of my 11 flat twists that I gathered into a bun. I intended to wear for a week but the parts are CrAzY and they are already frizzing. Any tips? How do I make straight parts in the back of my head by myself? How do you keep down the frizzing? My camera battery died so the blurry pics are from my iPhone. So sorry. Have a great weekend naturalistas!

TJ I had this jar in my slippery hands last night!!! You are going to make me go back. Thanks for the review!!
04.22 how do you nourish your scalp?
I haven't been posting much since I've embarked on a six-week twist challenge. Since my hands have been out of my hair, there isn't anything to report. This morning I pinned my four-day-old twists into a French roll.
But I am interested in learning more about how other naturalistas keep their scalps nourished. I usually put a few drops of Jane Carter Scalp Renew on my scalp while deep conditioning, so it stays on for an hour before rinsing. This is a weekly routine. I've also been trying to massage my scalp every evening before I put on my satin bonnet for the night. What's your routine for your scalp?

Cute cute!!! The only thing I do is rub in what ever moisturizer i have for my hair into my scalp. Every otheer day I apply my Bee Mine growth serum.
Re: Meet talljournalist
i want to do a french roll sooooo bad. i HATED them back in the day but now that im older, i think there so classy n sophisticated.
to nourish my scalp i used to use coconut oil and alternate w/afroveda's shikakai oil (loooves it), massage it in and hop in the shower w/shower cap! Now, i found pretty much my staple becuz its more like an old skool grease from pooka! i cant say enuff how much i love this stuff (thnx sweet) and i grease my scalp w/it every 2 days or so.

04.23 hot oil treatments?
What about hot oil treatments? My mom would give one to me every Friday night before washing my hair when I was growing up. Reminiscing on those days with the warmth on my scalp has me considering their addition to my routine. Do any of you naturalistas use hot oil treatments with EVOO or a particular product?
Re: Meet talljournalist
Thanks for that review TJ. I picked up that product the last time I visited Walmart but put it down because I wasn't sure about the ingredients. I hope to try it just as soon as I use the rest of my OTHER DCs!
