Color for natural hair
I've been playing around with the idea of dyeing my hair to spice up my TWA. I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on what products I could possibly use to dye my hair. I don't want to use anything that may be damaging.

You may want to try henna. I have dye in my hair now. It has made my hair a little brittle but not really damaged. You have to make sure you pay close attention to your hair in relation to protein and moisture, but overall I love it. Some people's hair are not strong enough for color (making it lighter). Henna is a more natural way of doing so.

I want to dye my twa too. I bought some henna but I'm hesitant to use it because I don't want it to damage or change my hair's texture.
Re: Color for natural hair
I have colored my hair about 3 times and I only used henna. I've gotten some very good results with Dark and Lovely but this year I'm only using Henna.

Does the henna change your texture at all?

Honestly, even though I've tried it 3 times, I'm the wrong person to ask since I still haven't gotten a ny good results. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] It makes my hair very dry and brittle. My hair prefers alma; it really made my curls pop! brown would be nice but i think the most important thing is for you to prep your hair for the damage you'll face if you use a commercial dye

I think finding the right kind of color is important. I always want ammonia ( hope I spelled it right) Free color. Why not use a temporary color. Less damage!

Re: Color for natural hair
My hair is dark brwn/black and after hennaing my hair is dark brwn with a hint of red in the sun. I've only henna'd once, but the mor you do it, the better the color takes. I didn't notice a difference for about a week.
After hennaing my hair was super dry and straw when it wassoo soft before hand and so I said I'd probably never do it again, but I took the recommendation of dcing overnight from another curly and saved it.. yay!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] So, what the heck, I guess I'll give it another go [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

@ naturally nu: really? I've only hennaed once with packs from my indian grocer and my hair is noticably softer. It wasn't so much when I just shampooed and conditioned but when I added olive oil and brushed it I noticed an improvement in softness

Yea, girl! I was so bummed. I heard that has actually happened to a lot of naturals. I added red zinger tea in my mixture which probably made it too acidic. Not to mention I had a WACK brand of henna that no one's ever heard of.. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I'm using Jamila next time..
It did strengthen my hair though which I love..it was already soft, so not a noticeable change there. Chloe and I are happy campers.
