Totaly Twisted mouse?
Hey gals, I was wondering....Is it a bad Idea to use mouse. I was in rite aid looking at the totaly twisted line of products and I was wondering if mouse dries out hair? It says it's good for curl definition so I wanted to pick it up but decided to consult the community 1st.
Also if it is bad for your hair, any product I should pick up that's affordable and can be bought at a place like rite aid or walgreens?
I ain't trying to pay miss jessies prices lol.

Re: Totaly Twisted mouse?
When I first started transitioning I used the Totally Twisted mouse from Herbal Essence. But it felt like it dried my hair out and made it crunchy. I was using it to create my twists. I've now substituted it for Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue, which is far lighter, smells better and makes my twistouts softer.
Re: Totaly Twisted mouse?
I used mousse (although it wasn't totally twisted) occasionally when I first started and it made my hair crunchy too. Have you considered using just conditioner and a little gel like fantasia IC or ecostyler to improve curl definition? These do a lot for my hair...

Mousse has alcohol in it if I'm not mistaken which will dry your hair right on out.

From my experiences with mousse, it has always dried out my hair! stick to styling gels.. the fantasia IC is a good one (MsChris8's suggestion) and you could also try organic's styling gel (I sometimes use this one)

MOUSSE:
- light foam
- adds volume to the hair and in some cases, adds bound
- light hold
- doesn't really work well for thick hair (I say this based on experience [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] )
GEL:
- thicker in terms of texture
- tends to have a stronger hold
- better for curl deifnition
- great for thick hair
** a tip when choosing gels (or most hair products): GO FOR THE ALCOHOL FREE STUFF!!

Re: Totaly Twisted mouse?
I've actually had some luck with mousse but not gel when I was younger. I used a mousse by dove-I was never a fan of gel
thanks
thanks

For me, its been the complete opposite... absolutely no luck with mousse and lotsa luck with gel.

Be careful with whatever product you use, learn to buy from the ingredients, not what the label will say it will do. There are gels that are just as, if not more, drying and damaging as some mousse because of the ingredients in them.

Re: Totaly Twisted mouse?
I used Totally Twisted mousse in December, and had great results. I used it in combo with the condish. In fact, when I use up the gels I have, I will re-purchase it. I also want to try the set me up mousse. Neither have alcohol in them (unless there's some word for alcohol they're using that I'm not familar with). Here are the Totally Twisted ingredients from the HE site.
Ingredients: water, isobutane, polyquaternium-4, propane, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower/leaf stem extract, jade plant (crassula argentea) extract, fragrance, propylene glycol, c9-11 pareth-8, dmdm hydantoin, disodium edta, citric acid.
