pinned up hair
Since I decided to wear my hair twisted and pinned up for 7 months..and only wear it out (wash n go) when I am going somewhere special...you know out to dinner, anniversary, trip, beach, etc...
I decided to switch it up and plait my hair yesterday instead of twisting it. I think I like plaiting it more, bc i can grab more hair without it coming apart. I like it a lot.
I will keep it like this until Friday morning. Friday night my husband and I along with another couple are going to a Greecian restuarant, so I will practice my wash n go using Lorraine Massey's technique. I think I am just gonna stop fighting with my hair and do my wash n gos that way. I will try to do a tutorial on it one day.
Edited: Oh yeah! I am so in love with this organic virgin coconut oil that was sent to me...i will do a review on it soon, but I think it doesnt matter what brand of coconut oil you get...when i was relaxed i tried coconut oil and hated it. So I decided to try it again after reading a few threads on NC.com about it, and how it is best to use on wet or damp hair..I used the first time last week, and twisted my hair. Okay, so you know that when you keep your hair twisted when you cowash it it, you will see shedding, a lot of it bc your hair has been in a set style and the dead hair just fall out...well at least for me. Guess what?!?!?!? I barely had shedding yesterday when i cowashed my hair, it was crazy. It is like the coconut oil helped with the shedding. I say this bc the only thing i used differently was the coconut oil, i usually use EVOO. I have started twisting my hair with One C too, it has some pretty good ingredients, but it is not organic..IDK, I think it is the coconut oil...
I love it because it smells good, it is light, makes my hair very soft, and gives and amazing shine! Yay for coconut oil!
Check out the pictures...
Semi texture shot...i had conditioner in my hair...
Yesterday, after I cowashed and DC'd witha banana hair mask i made (which will not happend again! lol)
I played around with my wet hair before i braided it...just to see what my wash n go would look like...i do not like my bangs! ugh! So i pinned them back on one of the pictures! Lol!!!

Wow, MC - your hair is long ... look at those plaits. I love it.
Also, I don't think I'm liking the short front of my hair either, not for wng's anyway. I put on a bland this morning and pulled it back.
Your hair looks super shiny - did you put any oil or moisturizer on it?

Aww thanks BBD! Oops! I so forgot to mention the main thing, I have been trying coconut oil on my hair and it is AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAzing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it, the smell, the texture, the shine, the softness i get from it. I love EVOO, but I think Coconut oil is my favorite oil now.
I will edit my post and explain what i have notice from using coconut oil 1x!
Thank you! Yes, I am not feeling the bangs, i love them when my hair straight, but curly...not so much! I feel like I look like french poodle!Ugh!

Love the pinned back braids!
Also, thank you for updating your information--found the information from the CG founder very helpful. I never rinsed hair for a few seconds after applying conditioner. I will definitely try to see if I notice a difference. Again, thanks a bunch!

MahoganyCurls wrote:quote="sunbaby"]Your hair looks gorgeous!! What's plopping?
Thank you! Plopping is drying your hair with a T-shirt or curly hair friendly towel...not a regular towel...it is kinda hard to explain...check out the videos...There is more than one way to do this...it usually works best on longer hair than short hair. I modified it for my length...
Plopping also, scrunches the curl..creating a more "curly" look..most longer curlies plop bc the hair usually drops and the curls tend to "wave" more than curl do to the weight of the hair...
Plopping also helps with drying the hair faster...i personally do not like dripping when i am trying to get dressed! Lol!!!
I did mine like curly chronicles, except i didnt diffuse..i just shook my hair gently and the results were pretty nice, and i only did it no more than 5-7 minutes...[/quote]
Thanks, Mahogany Curls. I have a TWA so I guess I won't need to plop for awhile.

Jess those plaits are FAB!!!! And I can't wait for that reveiw on the coconut oil
Re: MahoganyCurls- Herllo!!!! (In Madea's voice....lol!)
Your 7 month twist and tuck challenge sounds like a good idea!!! I have been wearing a protective style for a month at a time since November 2009. I delivered my 3rd daughter on Dec 3, and to be honest I don't really have time to do my hair with a three year old, a 21 month old, and a 3 month old!!! I have been dreading the 3 month post partum mark because with my two other pregnancies the shedding started, and sure enough, I shampooed/conditioned my hair this past weekend, and shedded a small mammal...so it's definitely started. In the past, it sheds terribly through month 4, and by month 6 it starts growing back, so I figure if I commit to the twist and tuck challenge, maybe I won't get too depressed with the shedding, because it will be up and out of the way!!! thanks for the idea!

Yes, I think this style is great for busy mothers. I have a 3 year old myself so I that kids especially smaller ones are a handful! Congrats on the baby too! I experienced a lot of shedding post partum too..it drove me nuts! Lol!!! I love this style during the week, I just twist or plait and tuck it in or pin them up..tie my scarf on my hair and get up and go...run errands, etc...it stays in place and out of my face, out of sight, out of mind. When I go out somewhere, I just cowash (if i do not feel like wearing the twists/plaits) and do a wash n go..then retwist/replait, the next day for the rest of the week until I do something special again. Basically, what I am doing is keeping my hair in a protective style on a daily basis, instead of wearing it out all of the time. Then, if i am going out and do now want to wear my hair pinned back, i just take it down and style it depending on how i feel. Most likely a wash n go! But you will love this style!

You're welcome and thank you! I love you and your curls as well! Keep up the great work! Yes, the TWA phase is pretty short when you start to leave it, that is when your hair starts to get a little tricky...this is what i am dealing with now. The in between stage..ughh!
CocaColaCutie wrote:tiashauntee wrote:Accordion technique....I am intrigued......

I will definitely share! I will post a YouTube video Friday on how to do this. This method works best in the shower so I may have wear clothes..not sure if I want to wear my bathing suit due to crazy ppl (pervs) on youtube...I have found out that when your hair isnt a TWA anymore, it is best to style your wash n gos (1st day hair) while you are in the shower. Putting my head in the sink isnt cutting it anymore, my hair will be tangle city..well at least for me! So, I am brainstorming how I should film this. I will have it figured out by Friday though!

The picture with your curly hair^^^^ is my favorite of you! I love those types of curls! I am a big fan of yours and have probably seen all of your how to videos. You are a big inspiration to me. Both hair wise and just in life. Its nice that you have a husband that loves and supports your decision. My boyfriend never said he hated it but everytime i change my hair he states that he likes it, except for when I wore my natural curls. So i havent even tell him that I am about to BC because I am doing it for me. Keep up the beauty, Queen!

Have your hubby film for you and tell him to keep the camera focused on your head (You know how hubby's can get, LOL). I can't think of a way to film it without the pervs tuning in to watch "the show"
I can't wash my hair in the sink anymore either. However, it's not because of tangles - it's because my hair now goes down the drain and thats gross. I can't even hang over the tub. I took my sink washing for granted and now I miss it.
