Alicia Keys' Hair in New Video
In Alicia's new video (purple in beginning and end), she wears a gorgeous bun. The front is twisted or something. I have seen the video a couple of times but cannot tell. How do you think the front was styled? TIA
Re: Alicia Keys' Hair in New Video
I saw the video recently and thought it was a cool 'do too. It looks like she has done this kind of style a few times before. From studying her hair, lol, the obvious is the part in the front which looks like it goes back to the top rear of the head. That can be slicked down with gel and the like. If you see the behind the scenes video & pics you can see more clearly where they made another part on the other side, underneath the updo (0:39).

The middle of her hair (the updo) looks like it was french braided. The bun looked simple at first but it looked like they either took the middle braid and made it to a low bun or created a bun separate from the middle braid with wrapped a braid around it. For the front part, the 40's throwback of an updo...I'm thinking whether you bantu-knot or use twist-outs even a rollerset you would twirl little pieces and pin them in place with bobby pins. In fact it would be similar to doing bantu knots but looser and more like waves.
It looks like you just need to map out what pieces to section off. It's a cool hairdo to do variations of...twists instead of braids, ponytail in place of bun with braid still around it, a more true mini pompadour, etc.

Hope that didn't confuse you even more. Like I said the pics would greatly help my explaining from just seeing it instead of minced words, lol.

Re: Alicia Keys' Hair in New Video
This is very much appreciated. I now have pictures and can, like you wrote, create something similar. Again, thank you!
Re: Alicia Keys' Hair in New Video
I am going to attempt that style the next time I roller set my hair. I think it would be easier to achieve if my hair is somewhat straight
Re: Alicia Keys' Hair in New Video
Glad to help...I just thought that there must be a fanclub of some sort tracking her every move thru pictures, lol. Turns out I was right, right down to her hairstyles.
And thanks for the suggestion, I think many of us can work around it.
I think rollerset hair would work best too.

BlackOnyx77 on YT has a video of her interpretation of this style. That may be a good way to start in recreating it.
The style is basically a hawk. The sides are slicked back and then the middle is a french braid. But I'm not quite sure which way it starts. The very front is somewhat of a pin curl. I think that's the best way to describe it.

The frenchbraid starts in the back and goes foward. The tail was tucked into the bang in the front.
