just wanted your take on this.... Empty just wanted your take on this....

Post by blondie 23rd December 2009, 4:44 pm

This week DH asked if I would allow my hair to grow back to it's natural color. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] When he met me, it wasn't platinum, but it wasn't my natural color (I have not seen that since I was 15!). I'm not in the habit of doing anything just to please anyone, much less a man....but he is the best man other than my father that I've ever met. The thing is, I'm really attached to my blonde. It's fun, different, covers gray (woo-hoo!), I haven't bored of it, and allows me to express myself while still being appropriate for corporate America.

I don't want to be selfish, so my question is, should I be true to myself, or try to appease DH? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I've seen your pictures in other threads and I think you look FAB with this hair color!! So, I'm not sure. I want to say be your true self. If you are willing to grow your hair out and let your natural color come in maybe do blonde highlights. A change is always nice. Smile

A healthy relationship is give and take. Changing your hair color will not change the beautiful person you are inside...besides after seeing your natural hair color, your hubby may like the blonde better. (lol) just my take

I have to agree with vakeshias! I would offer to change it and tell him that IF you dont like it, you are going back to blonde or maybe some other color! What color is your normal color?

@vakeshias - thanks, I never thought about it like that!

@nylacoils- if memory serves me correctly [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] it's a medium brown. I used to call it "doo doo brown" because it wouldn't shine, sheen, glow, nuthin. just sit there. I got hooked on color because as a child it was a bright red/orange. to this day we still don't know how that happened!

I agree with other ladies, try it out for "a taste" and see if you like it.
But wouldnt be hard to grow out ur natural color - so would u dye it darker? I know you take care of ur hair, but I would still be scared to put color on top of the platinum?

LOL @ hiding the gray.

@Lena73 - that's the thing, I wouldn't want to color over it, unless maybe a rinse.

Hey Blondie,

Do you bleach your hair and than color it? Sorry if that is a stupid question. I've never dyed my hair so I don't know much about coloring it. I've only used kool aid and Henna. Have you ever thought of using a Henna mix? Your hair does look good that way though.

Blondie, your DH set you up. He said, let me build her this shelf for her hair products then I am gonna ask her to go back to her natural hair color. LOL!! I'm just messing with you. I agree with vakeshias though.

No, that's not stupid! Smile It actually isn't a color, it's bleach only. I actually can't use henna, now that I've used the bleach.

Thanks for the compliment, I've had every color under the sun (blue, fire engine red, pink, green, plaid...OK, not the plaid!) and this is the one that feels the most comfortable.

Actually, I was just wondering if DH is uncomfortable with the attention it sometimes brings. I never pay attention to folks but now that I think about it, that may be it. Time for Nikki's couch!! Smile

I agree with Vakeshias too, but at the same time if you have tried all the other colors and this is what you feel most comfortable with than sometimes that may be whats best until your ready for a change. Keep in mind though that bleach is very harmful to your hair it could eventually cause damage. I have noticed that sometimes my DH will want me to change something too if I get too much attention! That could be it. Smile

I thought you could put henna on top of anything. What will happen if you put it on bleached hair?

Blondie, I just read your post on another thread about how you bleach on the regular and your hair is very strong and healthy. Ignore my warning about it being harmful. Some people could probably handle it better than others Smile. I do know that dyes can cause a green substance on your brain. I know a couple of people that have worked in a morgue and they said that women that have dyed their hair for years had a green substance on their brain when they did the autopsy. They said quite a few of them had brain cancer I believe.

@Hollis - If I hennaed...an ungodly color heretofore unknown to man would come forth!!!

And the green thing, that's an urban legend. I heard it applied to women who had relaxers! But don't worry, it really is just an urban legend. Smile

I know what you should do Blondie, go to the Beauty shop and buy a wig in your hair's texture and the color you think your natural hair is or even the color your DH would like it to be or even one w/ your natural hair color w/ highlights (ask him to paid for it LOL) and wear it around for a month and see if you and him really like the color. Then if you decide to color your hair, for the best result have your hair professional dye then you can redye it yourself after that, but hopfully he won't care for the wig's color and really appriecate the platinum blonde you truly are.

That is a good idea!

I've talked to my husband about it, and he told me that he wouldn't want me to change my hair unless I really wanted to as well. I was SO happy to hear that!
