Help! My HG just gave up on me!

Well I'm newly natural (2.5 years)... and I'm still trying to find what works. I've been using the Devacurl line which my hair absolutely LOVES but I'm allergic BOO! It's the only thing that's ever given me day 3 or 4 hair but it also causes scalp acne for me YUCK! Can anyone suggest a product they've tried that's similar?? I tossed Devacurl to the side and tried the TJ NourishSpa Cond BUT the TJ doesn't do much for my frizz. I've heard frizzy means my hair is looking for moisture so is there a step I'm missing??? I just started moisturizing every 3 nights with Nutiva EVCO overnight and I tried applying Jojoba oil with the TJ...not working! I have a strong aversion to gels... I would love to stick with just a leave-in that will also provide curl definition. Please help!

I've tried the Shea Moisture smoothie, KCKT & KCCC, the Curls line and the Giovanni line as well.. No no and no. My hair hates me lol

Have you tried leaving in conditioner? I rarely ever use the gels that I have. I usually just wet, moisturize with a leave in and seal or leave regular conditioner in after a co- wash and use that as my styler/moisturizer and seal. Also do you DC? if you need more moisture in your regimen that will help. I do it once/week.

Yes I co-wash with Tresemme Naturals and use the TJ as a leave-in. It just does absolutely nothing for my excessive frizz whereas the Devacurl eliminated most of it. By seal, do you mean an oil? And yes, I just started the EVCO DC every 3 days since I feel like I'm lacking moisture.

Yea I mean sealing with an oil. Also remember that just because you have some frizz doesn't necisarily mean that you need more moisture. It's kind of part of the nature of curly hair to have some frizz. Honestly for me the only thing that really calms down the frizz is a lil bit of get but like i said I don't use it too much so some days I just go with what my hair wants to do (sorry I know that doesn't really help). Also with the DC, just doing it with oil alone may not be enough bc oil itself really isn't a moisturizer. You may be sealing out a lot of the moisture your putting in by doing that. When I DC I use a thick conditioner, I mix in some oil and a lil bit of honey and sit under the dryer for about 15-20 min. Works wonders. A good DC session like that will usually tame the frizz for a while too and I have 3c/3b frizzy hair as well.

Have you tried yes to cucumbers conditioner as a leave in and an oil such as olive oil or cocconut oil. I have 3c hair and I love this conditoner as a leave in.Honestly for me it works better than all the other stuff I have.!

I have an issue with frizz as well and I found the perfect Dc that helps with the frizz and it home made! I use equal part honey, coconut oil and evoo. I apply root to end massage in put on a plastic cap and clean the house( I don't have a hooded dryer) then rinse out. Talk about SOFT hair and the frizz is under controll! Have you tried the curls line at target to help hold your curls?

Are you against using conditioners with cones in them? My favorites to leave in are Herbal Essences Hello Hydration and Totally Twisted, and also Garnier Fructise Sleek and Shine. They define my curls yet leave my hair pretty soft. Once it dries some I seal my hair with my shea butter/coconut oil mix and sometimes olive oil. No frizz in sight after that!

@Craving & Caramel ~ WOW! Last night I mixed together a DC with some suggestions I've read on this site (I LOVE THIS SITE!!) and I left it in overnight (EVOO, EVCO, honey, egg and baby food banana-this was easy I have a 7 month old here lol). This morning I rinsed out and WOW I've never felt my hair so soft and the frizz was significantly reduced.. I couldn't believe it! I used TJ Nourish as leave-in and sealed with EVOO and that made a HUGE difference as well. My curls are poppin and I'm so happy to say I have more curls than frizz! Thank you ladies for all the fab comments... Yay CurlyNikki!!!!

I'm so glad it helped you out and I bet your hair smelled yummy too! Did you use the whole egg or just the whites/yolk? Is TJ the brand name or is it shortned?

I just threw the whole egg in there lol and yes it did smell yummy! TJ is short for Trader Joe's. Its their own conditioner...it works really well for me WITH the EVOO as a leave-in but it doesn't have amazing slip IMO so I don't use it as a cowash anymore.

@ raina - thx for the Yes to Cucumbers suggestion. I really like that as a leave in with the EVOO. It produced very soft hair with curl definition.
