Cantu Leave In vs. Kinky Curling Curling Custard Empty Cantu Leave In vs. Kinky Curling Curling Custard

Since I did my semi-chop last week, I've purchased all sorts of things I've seen y'all loving. As a matter of fact, I've purchased WAY too much stuff already. Right now, I want to be strictly wash and go.

I still have some relaxer on the top and crown, so I'm dealing with that and my natural hair. And even though it may look like it, I have never colored my hair. I'm not sure what hair type I am, but I guess maybe somewhere between a 3C and 4a. I have a pretty decent curl pattern without any product on my hair, but my natural hair seems SO dry - much more so than my relaxed hair ever seemed.

This is my hair yesterday. I washed it in the shower with the Equate Baby Shampoo, followed by the Curlz Sublime Organic Conditioner, which I rinsed out. I followed that with the Cantu Leave-In Conditioner applied to my wet hair. Once the Cantu was thoughtout my entire head, I spiked the top and left it alone without touching it for about 30 minutes, allowing it to dry some. The last thing I did was rub about a nickel size dollop of the Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oils in my hand and pat on my hair to seal it.

This is my hair today. I shampooed this morning with the Kurly Kinky Come Clean Shampoo. I followed that up with the Kurly Kinky Knot Today conditioner. I had planned to leave that in, but I ended up rinsing it out because it was white and I was running late. So I rinsed it out, and added back in just a little. I then applied the KCCC to my wet hair. I manipulated my hair, just like I did with the Cantu. Once it had dried for about 30 minutes, I applied the same amount of the Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oils the same way I did yesterday to seal it.

At this point, comparing the curls I got with both products, as well as the way my hair feels, I prefer the Cantu leave in. My hair was much softer, and I think the curls are actually better defined with the Cantu. I'm not sure if length of hair makes a difference in the way the products work, but at this length, I'd choose the Cantu before purchasing more of the KCCC.

Very nice. I actually like both. Next time try putting the oil on before applying the curling custard. It works so much better by providing a barrier against the firmness of the custard. It'll be much softer.

A lot of naturals experience dryness post BC. Put the baggy method in the CN search. As an overnight treatment, oil, water, and a leave-in under a plastic cap and silk bonnet does wonders for moisture.

Thank you - I'll do the oil first tomorrow and see if that helps with the stiffness.

I've tried the leave in overnight with a plastic cap under my scarf, and it did help with the dryness. I guess I should do it more often - I only did it that one time. I'll search "baggy method" for more details. Thanks so much!

Congrats on your BC!
Just pay close attention to the shampoos since it is common for dryness issues post BC and you don't need a product working against you. I have read some ppl say the Come Clean seemed like a clarifying shampoo or that it didn't provide moisture like the name suggests. So, just proceed with caution. Also, take a look at the ingredients in the baby shampoo (I have never used it), but it is sometimes surprising what ingredients end up in baby shampoo.

Nola is right. I just saw that you shampooed with the Come Clean. That clarifier can be hardcore and very stripping of your natural hair oil after a wash. I used to use it when I felt that I had too much product buildup, but it was not my regular shampoo on wash day. Eventually I found a non-stripping clarification shampoo that cleansed my hair, while leaving it soft to the touch. How does your hair feel after washing it with Come Clean?

Good catch, Nola.

Yldthng -
Your hair is GORGEOUS either way. Your curls do seem to pop a bit more with the Cantu Leave-in. See, I was trying to hold off for another 2 months to MC, but eh ... scratch Help?! (LOL) Our hair seems to look like the same length, except I have about 3 inches on top due to my mMC Saturday. I can't WAIT to get the rest of this relaxer off my head. Give ... me ... FREE!! Very Happy
