I'm looking for good cheap shampoos that I can use for clarifying occasionally. I'm a college student so I'm on a budget lol. Thanks Smile

Cheap Good Shampoos?? Empty Cheap but, good

Post by Mllebutterfly 15th December 2009, 11:04 am

Neutrogena's anti-residue shampoo (about $6 at the drugstore) is really good. A lot of products targeted at African Americans are really mild and do not remove all the product that builds-up in our hair. I would alternate this shampoo with one of the cheap moisterizing shampoos. You should probably wash your hair at least twice a week.

The following shampoos are under $4:
Pantene Pro-V for natural and relaxed hair
Herbal Essences totally twisted for curls and waves

Don' forget to condition your hair (I deep condition at least once per week)
Aussie 3 in 1 (is a good deep conditioner)

My favorite deep conditioner is:
Organic Root Stimulator olive oil replenishing conditioner
you can by this in a single use pack or bulk sized at Sally's ($1.29 for a single pack or $12 for 23 oz)

Dr. Bronners soap (this product is a good money saver because you can use it as a shampoo, body wash, and all purpose cleaner for your house) you can buy a gallon of this online at Amazon.com and it will last 6 months to an entire year.

My favorite is Trader Joe's Nourish Spa shampoo. You can't go wrong with the shampoo or conditioner. It leaves hair uber soft and it only costs $2 and some change.

I use (and have always used) Creme of Nature shampoo. If you can find the OLD formula (white bottle with colored writing) then you should try it. The new formula (brown bottle with a bunch of colors all over) has SLS in it and I don't use anything with SLS; it dries my hair out like crazy.

I feel you on that (old) Creme of Nature Shampoo...it is the best. Cleans the hair well with out drying it out or stripping it of it's moisture. Leaves the hair easy to detangle and smelling fresh. Love it.

@ curlista...

Stores such as Big Lots (close out store) still have the older formula as well as some BSS, ever Sally's.

Does anyone know where I can find the OLD Creme of Nature, I just bought some this summer. Had I known they were changing their formula I wouldve stocked up.

Oh I missed your message. I'll have to try Big Lots, I know the Sally's here already have the new ones in place.

I, too, use Dr Bronner's soap for shampoo. I use the Almond scent. I get it from Trader Joe's for about $8-9 - it is a big bottle. I put about 3 drops in a bottle and add water to fill the bottle up. Then shampoo. You can play around with the amount of soap you use.
